Chapter 9
I sighed and placed the box back into the locker. What is going on?
After the lunch break, we had another quiz for the day.
And, guess what? I still haven't gotten 70% yet. It was 59%.
I rolled my eyes and put my head on the table. Baejin's not around so there's nobody asking for my mark. For the rest of the day, my heart felt empty and I didn't know what's going on with it.
🌼
As soon as I arrived home, Minki stopped me in front of the door asking, "Is that guy coming over today?"
"I don't think so. Why?" I asked.
Minki pouted, "Too bad. I actually had fun talking to him last time. When did you guys start dating?"
I tilted my head to side, "Huh? What makes you think that we're dating?"
"You're not? You don't mind if I hook him up with my female friend, right?" he smirked playfully. "Honestly, Minki. I don't know why you're asking me all these stuff but I'm so freaking tired right now I just want to collapse on my bed." I sighed.
He patted my head and added, "Rest well, lil sis. I'm gonna order some pizza and rot to death on the couch."
🌼
Friday, the whole class were circling around Baejin's desk when I arrived at the school.
It took me by surprise to see that Baejin, my dearest deskmate, was looking so pale and the other female students were touching his forehead to "check his temperature" when we all knew that it was just an excuse to touch the boy's small face.
"Um, excuse me? But that's my seat." I said while pointing at the seat beside Baejin's.
The girl who sat on my seat glared at me and scoffed, "What's the purpose of you sitting here if you can't take care of your own deskmate?"
I was... amused. "Sorry but, I don't recall being his mom?"
Baejin stood up and turned to face me. His eyes look so tired and lifeless. "I'm going home."
With that, he slung his beg around his shoulder and walked out of the classroom.
Some of the girls followed him while some were acting worried by asking him if he's gonna be okay even if they knew he couldn't hear them.
The first period was Mathematics again and the teacher came in with new sets of questions.
This time, I got 64%
What an improvement! But that wasn't enough.
🌼
During lunch time, I decided to eat in the locker room alone since my classmates wouldn't stop giving me stares that screams "You Have Killed Our Bae Jinyoung!" which, I obviously did not.
When I decided to look into my locker, I saw a really nice looking glass box. I opened the box revealing 9 pairs of earrings.
I have never received something like this from all the boxes that i got before. To my surprise, there's a note underneath the earrings which wrote :
"Are my gifts really not important to you?"
🌼
I really couldn't pay attention in class throughout the whole day.
What was that note supposed to mean?
I went back home and i heard laughters coming from the kitchen.
And as expected, Minki was laughing his ass off while talking to someone on the phone.
"What are you doing? And what is that smell?" I asked.
Minki turned around and smiled, "I'll see you in 5 minutes, Seongwoo."
"Welcome home! I made some porridge for your friend since he seems a little off today. He don't even have the energy to talk and I can't believe you still invited him despite his condition." Minki shook his head.
"You let him in??? Where is he?" I put my beg on one of the chairs in the kitchen.
"Of course! I'm a responsible human being. I won't let the poor boy freeze to death outside." He chuckled before adding, "Besides, I won't be able to play with babies if he dies."
"What the heck are you talking about?!" I punched his arm lightly.
He laughed and ruffled my hair, "I'll be leaving now. Don't forget to turn off the stove!"
🌼
I poured the porridge that Minki cooked into a bowl and headed towards the living room.
My eyes instantly met Baejin's who seemed so lifeless.
I placed the bowl on the coffee table and sat on the couch beside Baejin.
"How're you feeling?"
Baejin just sighed and nodded his head slowly, "Better, I guess."
Man, his voice was so hoarse and I felt so bad for no reason.
"What did you get for your Math paper this time?" he asked and let out a small cough.
"Are you here to tutor me?" I frowned.
He nodded and coughed again. I sighed, "This wouldn't do. I got better than before. Do you want to eat some porridge?"
"Still not 70%, right? And yes, please." He asked.
"Nope. I got 64%" I answered while handling him the bowl of porridge. He looked at me and smiled weakly.
The heck. There's no reason to be happy after hearing that a friend still didn't get an ideal mark.
He tried to feed himself the porridge with a spoon but his hand was so weak and it was trembling.
I decided snatch the bowl away from him, "Let me feed you."
