Chapter 3: Friday, September 8, Quidditch PitchRapunzel Corona

I tied my long, golden hair back in a tight, thick braid. When I was in the air, it would only get in my way. I was one of the hopeful Ravenclaw candidates trying out for the Quidditch team. Alongside me, Alice Liddell was putting on some blue robes and elbow pads, looking a bit queasy. I sympathized with her. She was only a second year, and this would be her first tryout, and, if it didn't go well, maybe her last.

Sitka Inuit, the Head Boy and Ravenclaw Quidditch Captain, had posted tryout information in the Common Room the day we got back to Hogwarts, with the urgent message, "We need the best of the best in order to beat Gryffindor." And it was true that Li Shang had an amazing team this year: Fa Mulan, Merida DunBroch, Pocahontas Powhatan, Tarzan Berengi, Phoebus de Châteaupers, Jim Hawkins, and Li Shang. They had won the last three years. But this year...Ravenclaw would stop them. We had to.

Sitka stood in the middle of the Quidditch pitch with his Cleansweep 9, surrounded by a crowd of brooms and blue uniforms. "Okay," He declared, surveying the group, "Chasers over here, Seekers over here, Keepers over here, and Beaters over here." We divided up. I stood next to my best friend, Ariel, among a large group of Chasers. What were the odds that I would make it? "Alright, so Alice Liddell, Wendy Darling, and Rapunzel Corona will be Team Blue shooting against Hiro Hamada for Team Bronze. Thomas Gates, Eilonwy Printz, and Ariel Atlantica will be Chasers for Team Bronze shooting on Team Blue's Tadashi Hamada. The Beaters for Team Bronze will be Quasimodo Hugo and John Rolfe, and the Beaters for Team Blue will be Wasabi and Chien Po. The Seeker for Team Blue will be Honey Lemon and for Team Bronze it'll be Go Go Tomago. I will be the referee."

The scrimmage began. Wendy snatched the Quaffle immediately, soaring over to Hiro's goalposts. Hiro blocked the top one, but Wendy feinted and went for the left goalposts, scoring the first ten points for Team Blue. Ariel was given the Quaffle for Team Bronze, but when she tried to speed down to Tadashi's goalposts, she fumbled and dropped it. I swooped down and snatched it, heading the other way. I managed to score ten more points for Team Blue, and this time the Quaffle was given to Thomas. Thomas streaked toward Tadashi, but Chien Po struck a Quaffle at him with such force that Thomas dropped the Quaffle and almost fell off his broom. Alice caught it and hurled it into the goalposts, narrowly avoiding Hiro. Thomas got the Quaffle again and this time, nothing could stop him. He shot toward Tadashi like a rocket, threw the Quaffle with all his strength, and made it into the middle goalpost, even though Tadashi had caught it, pushing our Keeper and the Quaffle through.

Wendy got the Quaffle again, and flew up the field, flitting between players like a magnet repelled by them but attracted to the goalpost. Quasimodo aimed a Bludger at her and it flew right over her head, but in her attempt to avoid it, she had dropped the Quaffle and Team Bronze took control. Eilonwy had the Quaffle now, and shot toward Tadashi, throwing it at the middle goalpost, but Tadashi caught it and passed it to me. Wasabi aimed a bludger at me, and I barely had time to dodge it.

I passed it to Alice, who determinedly flew upfield toward Hiro. Quasimodo aimed a Bludger at her, nearly knocking her off her broom. Thomas flew alongside her, elbowing her and trying to take the Quaffle. Sitka called, "Foul! No cobbling!" And Alice got a free shot. Hiro flew towards the right goalpost, but Alice shot it at the left. Another ten points were given to us.

Finally, the Snitch was spotted near Tadashi's goalposts! Go Go Tomago flew towards the goalposts on her Firebolt, and there was no way Honey Lemon could keep up on her Cleansweep 7. Team Bronze had lost by 160 to 40. We all dismounted, feeling nervous. Ariel dismounted and fell face first on the ground, moaning, "Oh ground! Oh, how I missed you! I'll never be disloyal again, I promise!"

Sitka dismounted, grinning. "Accio!" he called, and the Bludgers and Quaffle came streaking into the box, where they were magically locked up and stowed away. "Good work, everyone!" He called. "This year, I will be deciding positions based on your abilities to work together as a team as well as your abilities to fly and play your positions. For that reason, The Chasers are Wendy, Alice, and Rapunzel." We all squealed and hugged each other. We had done it! We made the team! Alice looked like she might cry from joy, and Wendy was doing a happy dance. Eilonwy and Thomas were frowning, clearly mad that they hadn't made it. Ariel on the other hand was jumping up and down with me, celebrating my appointment.
