My meeting with the Head Boy and Head Girl began normally, as usual. "Welcome back, Mr. Inuit and Ms. Arendelle! I trust you've both had good breaks?"

Sitka beamed, tossing his black ponytail back. "Yeah it was great! I got to spend some time with my brothers so that was awesome! They fought a lot, but overall it was a good break. What about you, Elsa?"

She clasped her hands together tightly in her lap. "Yeah, it was...fine. My parents and I discussed my plans post-graduation so that was...interesting. Mostly I just studied for N.E.W.T.s."

Clearly she didn't want to discuss it further. So we moved on. Prefect patrol reports, dueling club progress, Triwizard Tournament arrangements, and a quick dance around the elephant in the room: Maleficent. She was growing stronger, and there was a chance that her ideologies were swaying some of the students to her side. We'd just have to be vigilant.

And then just as quickly as it had begun, the meeting was over. Another box checked. Sitka stood, shouldered his bag, and strolled out the door with a casual goodbye to both of us.

Elsa remained in her seat, fidgeting with the sleeves of her robe anxiously.

I had been dreading this day for a long time.

I had suspected, of course, for years, that someday I'd have to face the truth. That someday the prophecy of the Northuldra would come true. And yet... it had always seemed so distant that I never worried about it, much like the distant deadlines on homework that my students ignored for weeks until the night before it's due. My only worry was that I had stalled too long and Elsa wouldn't be prepared.

"Headmaster?" she squeaked as soon as Sitka had left the room. "A few months ago, you said we'd discuss...your whole conversation with Professor Facilier." I turned away so that she wouldn't see my ashen face. "Headmaster," she pleaded, "I have to know! Someone...I think someone threatened my family."

I sighed reluctantly and stood to pace the room. I hated being trapped behind the desk. "Ms. Arendelle, have you ever heard the story of the Northuldra witches?"

She shook her head and leaned forward in her seat, desperate to learn more.

I sighed again. "I suppose not, since your mother tried to raise you both as non-magical as possible. Well...it's a bit of a fairy-tale, I suppose, a bed-time story for children. But to those who have studied the origin of magic...it is our history. Many different cultures have their own stories of the first witch or wizard, but in Europe it all began with the Northuldra family."

A familiar tome caught my eye on the shelf. Though I could've easily summoned it from the shelf with a flick of my wand, fetching it myself would give me much needed space. This conversation was all-too familiar. Hadn't another, young, gifted witch sat in my office years ago and asked about this very thing?

"Here," I said, flicking to the familiar chapter. "It will be helpful to hear it in Beedle the Bard's own words."

Elsa cleared her throat and glanced at me. "There once were three sisters who lived together in harmony with the four spirits of nature: water, earth, fire, and air. They lived in peace, unbothered by the outside world, in harmony and love. Their village had rejected them for the connection they had with nature, wanting nothing to do with it."

She looked up at me quizzically. "Headmaster, I don't see how this has anything to do with me."

I shrugged. "Many believe history has nothing to do with them personally, but it does not make it any less relevant. Read on, if you will."

Elsa returned to the book reluctantly. "In time, the sisters discovered the fifth spirit of nature: the spirit of magic." Elsa's blue eyes flashed with interest, just as my other pupil's had when I had shared this story. "The sisters realized that this newfound power had unlimited potential. The eldest sister desired power over those who had oppressed them, those who had no access to the powers of nature as they did. She fled to the moors to plot and scheme her takeover."
