A year and some change had passed. It was the dead of summer, and neither Ryan nor Shane enjoyed going outside in anything that wasn't a tank top and shorts. Which is why, when Ryan's friend wanted to see him, Shane was more than happy to let him come to the house just in hopes of sparing Ryan the heat. "So, you happy to meet someone new?" Ryan asks. "Not really," Shane says. "Everyone I need already lives here." Ryan chuckles, giving him a kiss on the cheek. "You know, sometimes I miss when you actually picked on me."
"Really? Well how do you know I wasn't just picking on you because I loved you?" Ryan blushed, grinning. "Stop," he says with a giggle as Shane stands from the recliner just to give him a kiss on the forehead. "You've gotta stop that when Brent comes over. He knows I'm not straight but I don't know if he'd be too fond of you." Shane furrows his brows. "And why does it matter? I can't get arrested for this, can I?" Shane wraps his hands around Ryan's waist with a smile. "No, but they can get me fired from work. Brent has some dirt on me. Do you want to be a broke little gay man?"
"Hey, I'm not little. I'll be a broke tall gay man." Ryan laughs some more. "Okay, but seriously, I don't want to lose my job. Can you shut up about how much you love me for a couple hours?" Shane sways gently on his feet, nodding and smiling. "But you know I'll be thinking it, baby."
"I know," Ryan says, standing on his tip-toes to kiss Shane. "I love you," he says.
"I love you too," Shane says, smiling again. "So, when's he coming over?"
"Uh, about an hour."
"In that case I'm going to go un-tidy my bed so he doesn't know we share a bed. Talk soon, baby. Love you."
"You already said that," Ryan says with a sarcastic roll of his eyes and a smile.
"And I can't say it again? I've gotta get it out of my system before that guy gets here."
"Alright, fair enough. I love you too."It had barely been two minutes since Shane had gone into his old room and he was already hearing an arrangement of brass instruments coming from the stereo. 'Every time it's something new,' he thinks, rolling his eyes with a smile. Ryan steps in the doorway, a big grin on his face as he props his head up against the doorway with his elbow.
"Just because I'm not from the time period doesn't mean I can't like Sinatra," Ryan says as he spots Shane taking humour to it. He joined into song with the stereo."We might have been meant for each other
To be or not to be, let our hearts discover
I have a feelin', it's a feelin' I'm concealin', I don't know why
It's just a mental, incidental, sentimental, alibi"Shane smiled, grabbing Ryan's hand and twirling him around in his arms. They laugh with each other, swaying to the music. They adjusted their dancing accordingly as the music got peppier, using moves that went along with it such as triple-steps and even the Charleston at one point, laughing and singing along together.
"But I adore you, so strong for you
Why go on stallin', I'm fallin', love is callin', why be shy?Let's fall in love
Why shouldn't we fall in love?
Our hearts are made of it
Let's take a chance, why be afraid of it?"The song went on and as they danced the un-tidied up the room to make it look like someone lived there. They sang together, both still swooning over each other like they had when they'd first met. As the song fades out they look at each other, pleased at the slightly less tidy room. "Well, that took, like, less than 5 minutes. What do you suggest we do for the rest of the time?" Ryan asks. "I certainly have a few ideas," Shane says with a grin and a wink. "We need to make the room look used, don't we?" Ryan chuckles.
"Let's use it, then."
