Chapter 4
Cherry Blossoms
I stared at him for a couple of seconds, unsure of what to make of his words.
"Uh?" I managed, my heart racing.
"You heard me," he stated plainly.
"Yeah, but I don't get it," I replied honestly.
"Never mind. Let's go to the other place I want to show you," he said, motioning towards his car. He instructed his driver, and soon we arrived at a place blanketed with cherry blossoms. I was awestruck and quickly took out my phone to capture the beauty.
"Come," Gray said, taking my hand as we climbed a hill surrounded by cherry blossoms. "I want you to cover your eyes," he instructed gently. I complied, letting him guide me.
"Are we there now, Gray?" I asked, curious.
"Almost," he chuckled softly. "Now, open them." I obeyed, blinking to adjust from darkness to light. The view that greeted me took my breath away—a stunning cityscape set against the colors of fall.
"Do you like it?" Gray asked, his voice filled with anticipation. I could only nod in response, utterly captivated by the scene before me.
The fresh air and breathtaking view left me wanting to witness a sunset from this spot.
"How did you find this place?" I inquired, genuinely curious. Gray smirked.
"My dad used to bring my mom here when they were high school sweethearts," he explained fondly.
"Really?" I smiled, imagining Gray's parents enjoying the sunset and cherry blossoms together.
"What are you thinking?" Gray asked, raising an eyebrow. I smiled back.
"Nothing much," I replied casually, shrugging. He nodded and loosened his tie. Our uniform coats were in the car, along with his driver.
"Do you want to stay and watch the sunset later, or head home? It's still early, only three o'clock," he said, checking his watch.
"Let's come back another day. I should head home now," I said with a smile. Gray nodded in agreement.
"I'll take you home," he offered. Once again, I directed him to my aunt's address instead of my own.
As he dropped me off at my aunt's front gates, I waited until he was out of sight before calling my driver to pick me up.
Back in the living room, I scrolled through the pictures I had taken, unable to suppress a smile. Alone in the room, with Dad at work and Natsu occupied with his girlfriend, I couldn't help but think of Mom, somewhere warm and peaceful.
Natsu entered the living room suddenly, breaking my reverie.
"Oh, hey there, sis!" he greeted, settling on the couch and changing the channel to basketball.
"Hey! I was still watching SpongeBob!" I protested with a pout.
"You were on your phone," he teased, earning a glare from me. I stood up, initially heading upstairs but deciding the kitchen was a better destination—food awaited.
I enjoyed pizza while browsing through my Twitter feed. After eating, I tidied up and retreated to my room to study. At 6 o'clock, I returned downstairs for dinner before heading back to my room to sleep.
The next day, I arrived early at school, passing the time with Color Switch until classes began. Throughout the day, I spent time with Gray, getting to know him better—a lot better.
I hoped that our newfound friendship would... last.
