Chapter 12

Calm Down

I tried desperately to push yesterday's events out of my mind, but they were firmly planted, like thorns in my thoughts.

"That asshole!" I muttered to my reflection in the mirror, frustration evident in my voice. I pointed a finger at myself, trying to impart some sense into the troubled image staring back at me. If anyone saw me, they'd probably think I'd lost it.

I splashed cold water on my face, hoping to snap out of the swirling emotions. Peering back into the mirror, I repeated to myself, "Juvia, don't let him ruin you again!" Another splash of water, a desperate attempt to wash away the hurt and confusion.

"Juvia, are you alright?" My dad's concerned voice startled me, and I quickly composed myself, opening the bathroom door with a forced smile.

"Uh, yeah, dad. I'm fine," I stammered, trying to appear nonchalant as I awkwardly ran a hand through my hair.

"I thought you were losing it in there," my dad chuckled, easing the tension. He closed the bathroom door behind him, leaving me alone with my thoughts once more.

I sighed and returned to the mirror, silently repeating, "Stay calm, Juvia. You're over him." I dried my face with a towel, taking a deep breath before heading out.

Deciding to distract myself, I opted to go to the mall and enroll in classes since summer was drawing to a close. I dressed in a white sleeveless shirt and a button-down white skirt, completing the look with sleek black boots.

"Natsu! I'm heading to the mall!" I called out toward the kitchen, knowing my overprotective brother was likely there.

"Alright! Back before nine!" His reply was prompt and protective, as always.

Balancing a Starbucks coffee in one hand, I strolled confidently through the mall, my eyes scanning the array of high-end boutiques. Entering one, I let my sunglasses slide up to rest atop my head like a chic headband. The boutique was filled with elegant dresses and stylish shoes.

I picked out a stunning dress and draped it over my arm, browsing through rows of shoes. Cream pumps caught my eye, but they seemed too ordinary for my taste.

As I continued browsing, I noticed a saleslady discreetly shadowing my every move. Avoiding her gaze, I headed straight to the counter and paid for everything in one go. I caught a glimpse of disappointment in her eyes, but I didn't dwell on it.

"Thank you, ma'am," the cashier said as I collected my paper bags.

"Rule number one: never make eye contact with strangers," I reminded myself, taking a sip of coffee.

"Rule number two: only speak when necessary," I thought, nodding in response to the cashier.

I walked out of the boutique with an air of grace, the paper bags swinging lightly at my side.

Heading towards the restaurant, my phone buzzed with a text from Natsu.

Natsu: I can enroll for you. I'm at the school. Welcome in advance ;)

I rolled my eyes at his presumptuousness but couldn't help smiling.

To Natsu: k

"Ow!"

"I'm sorry," a blonde woman bumped into me. I nodded in acknowledgment and continued on my way.

Seated at the restaurant, I ordered pasta and a refreshing lemon juice. Lost in my thoughts, I froze when I heard someone call out, "Fullbuster, you're finally here!"

My heart raced, and my breath caught in my throat. I tried to calm myself, reminding myself sternly, "Juvia, stay calm!"

He sat at the table beside mine, surrounded by friends. Panic rising, I quickly texted Natsu, suspecting he might be nearby due to his friends' presence.

To Natsu: Conceited idiot, where are you?

His response came swiftly.

Natsu: At home. Why?

I set my phone down and took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing thoughts.

"Why are you always late? Flirting with girls again, huh?" I heard one of his friends tease.

His chuckle echoed through the restaurant, sending a shiver down my spine and causing my heart to quicken its pace once more.

"My heart is loyal." His voice, after two long years, washed over me like a melody I thought I'd forgotten.

The words stirred a mixture of nostalgia and uncertainty within me, as memories of happier times flooded back, tinged with the ache of unresolved emotions.

Merry Christmas! I love you all! -E
