"Hurry up, Mum! I'm going to miss the train!" called a small girl as she pushed her way through the crowd.

"Darling, slow down! We've still got ten minutes."

The girl stopped. She turned back to look at her mother with a huff. "It's my first year, Mum. I can't miss the train, otherwise I'll never be able to get there!"

"You'll be fine, dear. Look, we're at the barrier anyway."

The girl looked ahead of her to see a brick divider between platforms 9 and 10. "I don't get it. Where's the train? And what do you mean by 'the barrier'?"

Her mother took her hand, and started walking towards the wall.

"Mum?" The woman sped up a little, a smile plastered on her face. " Mum, we're going to crash. Stop! " the girl closed her eyes as the wall came within meters. Suddenly, she felt an odd tickling sensation, then it was gone. She opened her eyes, and gasped.

There were children with their parents bustling and crying about them. Owls were hooting from all over the place, and she could hear cats meowing from the arms of their owners.

The girl looked at her mother in amazement. "Wow..." she said with a grin.

Her mother looked down at her and placed her hand on her shoulder. She crouched down, placing her other hand on the girl's cheek, and smiled.

"You be good this year, and remember: what house you get into doesn't matter. You'll be brilliant wherever you go. Write to me as much as you possibly can, darling. I love you."

" I will Mum. I love you too, " she said, giving her mother a giant hug.

Her mother broke the hug and led her towards the train. She kissed the top of her head, and the girl stepped aboard. She squeezed past the many students and started the arduous task of finding a compartment.

By the time she had found a suitable one, the train had started its journey to Hogwarts. This said compartment had one occupant (or two, depending on if you counted the occupant's pet toad); a small boy with bright red hair.

The girl opened the door, and popped her head in. "Sorry to bother you, but is it okay if I sit here? Everywhere else is full."

The boy nodded and gestured towards the seat across from himself. The girl smiled and quickly made herself comfortable.

The boy cleared his throat and said in a scratchy voice,"My name is Alastor Moody. "

He held out his hand with a small grin, and the girl took it. "Natalie Taylor, it's very nice to meet you. "
