She fought the urge so hard to vomit all over the place. Yes, she is happy for her friends who found their soulmates not long ago. But unfortunately for her, she had to endure this situation every single day at her school. There were pairs of soulmates who would hold hands in front of her, some would stare at each other with those goo-goo eyes she cannot stand at all. She cannot help but wonder where her soulmate is. Or, does she have a soulmate at all?
"If it is not the good girl Cassiopeia, lurking around the hallways looking at those people with disgust, or was that envy I see?" she almost rolled her eyes at the snarky remark the great Corvus made. His friends cackled.
"I do not envy them. At. All," she spits a lie. She would be lying if she did not say that she is jealous. Cassiopeia is longing for her soulmate.
"The good girl lies!" Corvus laughed with his friends. Sometimes, she is wondering when this man will leave her alone – alone, with these pairs of soulmates around her.
Corvus, then, folded his arms in his chest and stepped forward towards her. "I wonder why your soulmate is not here with you. Maybe he is ashamed of you? Because you have no friends? Or maybe because of your unruly hair? Or also, maybe because you are as short as my pen?" she clenched her fists at this but she kept her composure. She probably looked so red as a cherry right now. This guy is getting into her nerves.
"Well, let me ask you, then. Why is your pitiful soulmate not here, too? Or, do you have a soulmate at all? That is right. Because nobody is made for you. Nobody will ever love you and your ways," she gulped after saying that, as if she is preparing for his bashful comment.
Thankfully, the bell rang. Thank God.
"We are not yet done, good girl. You better watch your back. Mark it," Corvus then, roughly pushed Cassiopeia against an open door. She fell and hit her bottom first. Before she went up to her feet, she eventually had to endure snarky remarks and laughs tossed at her. And now she is definitely late for her next class in General Mathematics.
Realizing that there is no point in going to class now (especially when she is not good friends with General Mathematics), she found her way to the lagoon outside the building where she was. The grass seemed crunchy at her black school shoes, based on the sound it makes in the peaceful day. She then, thought about Corvus and his friends Scorpius and Blaise. Well, it is her fault she got all these bullying. During their first year, she accidentally stretched her foot when Corvus was running away from lecturer Lockhart (Corvus probably forgot to pass his project in their French class), making him trip. Sir Lockhart caught Corvus and made him attend detention for a whole week.
During their second year, when Cassiopeia was sent out of her class for sleeping, she went out of the building and went straight to the lagoon. She was so frustrated she grabbed rocks and furiously threw it to the body of water the whole school call it The Black Lake. She gasped when a figure rose up from the water. Corvus was there and he was swimming! "Hey! Why did you throw rocks at me?" he shouted, gesturing to his bleeding forehead. Cassiopeia figured out that she hit Corvus with those rocks she threw.
Their third year was embarrassing. It was their lunch break. Normally, the student community would spend time in their usual tables to eat. But Cassiopeia wondered why the whole canteen was deserted. But she did not move a muscle and ate alone. Not that she actually mind. "I heard Zabini is proposing to Astoria Black. Is that right?"she overheard the students in front of her. What? Corvus Zabini is proposing to Astoria Black? "Yeah, it is happening in the lagoon, I think. I do not really care,"answered the other. Cassiopeia realized that she had to witness it for no absolute reason. Grabbing her iced coffee and her research about Les Misérables, she went to the lagoon.
The students were right. Almost all of the student body were there, witnessing the grand proposal of Corvus Zabini to Astoria Black. She looked up to the sky. I supposed it is going to rain today. She sighed, but then the wind blew so hard the papers in her hand flew from her arms. Oh no! Sir Lockhart is going to kill me. So, she ran for it. It was so important for her. It is her research for their French class. The class the whole student body shivers for (lecturer Lockhart sure is scary). She ran and she ran, chasing her research, chasing her grades. "Watch it!" she did not realize she bumped into someone. Cassiopeia, then, felt a harsh push in her back. And she swore that everything went slow motion. All they saw was an iced coffee being poured in Corvus Zabini's head right before he can say the words "Will you do the honor and be my girlfriend?" Corvus saw black and the rest was history.
Cassiopeia cannot help but laughing at those embarrassing memories. The memories of Corvus manipulating her friend Daphne with words that will surely make her hate Cassiopeia are still fresh. But she cannot help but frown as she remembered how her friend betrayed her by letting her down and siding to Corvus when the bullying started in their fourth year. Corvus knew the information and used that against her.
She just sighed and closed her eyes as she thought, My dear soulmate, where are you when I needed you the most?
