With swollen red eyes, Cassiopeia walked towards disciplinary officer Dawson, "Forgive me, officer. I was late. You may extend my time being here if you wish – just to pay the time while I was off."
Scorpius, who is sitting in an arm-chair, and Officer Dawson looked up to her. The officer softened at the lady, not knowing what to say. The girl looked so tired, so depressed, and so weak that the officer thought that she could not walk on her own. "Cassiopeia, what-" she cut the words of the officer, not wanting to be rude, but not wanting him to be involved either.
"Nothing serious happened, officer. I just accidentally squirted perfume in my eyes and I had to wash it all off. It was the reason why I was late. Please forgive me," she mumbled, her usually lacy voice is now breaking.
The two gentlemen inside the room were not convinced, but they are trying not to show it. One of them decided to look convince for he was scared to see this girl break even more. While the other one knows the real reason why; but he does not want to be involved.
"If you wish," the officer said, his voice still reluctant but he still cleared his throat to gather their attention. "The both of you will help Madam Maxime in the library again. The chore ends at six in the evening, and it is thirty minutes to five in the afternoon now. If Madam Maxime decides to close the facility earlier than the usual closing time, you must return here immediately. Do not think of going to the lake to relax again. I tolerated you the first time and I will not, again. Remember that this is still a punishment and not a relaxation period. Understood?" he said with a strong and authoritative voice.
"Yeah, sure," said Scorpius, looking absolute bored. Cassiopeia just nodded; she does not want to speak at all. Besides, she understood the direction clearly, all painted and stuck into her mind, like Corvus' words.
Thinking about Corvus' words made her eyes warm again, tears filling up her eyes and threatening to spill again.
But no, she will not cry again. She will not look weak again. Not for the bastard who did this to her. "The both of you may now go," he dismissed them with a slight wave, before focusing back on his paper works.
They were a few steps away from the room when the officer called Scorpius back. She looked back, seeing Scorpius already looking at her. He gave her a nod, "You head first, Cassiopeia. I will see you there, okay?"
But, Cassiopeia just turned her head again and continued to walk, pretending as if she did not hear his words.
Walking to the library alone lifted a baggage on her chest for a while. No, she did not use the path Scorpius had led her to the other day. She wants the boy out of her sight, first. He is still the bastard's friend. The friend of her enemy is her enemy, too. Cassiopeia's mind thought about what happened earlier at their classroom. She was stuck inside of it and Scorpius seeing her in the detention room as if nothing ever happened made him feel shocked, and somehow, relieved.
