Dwalin stopped as he entered the doorway to your home, his head tilting as he saw the small pile of flowers in the middle of the floor, a note resting on top.
Placing down his axe next to the door, he walked over and picked up the note, opening it to read your handwriting.
You know where to find me.
Dwalin blinked and then stared at the flowers, picked from the very garden that you so tenderly cared for every day. Leaving his axe, he heads outside, the flowers fully in bloom in the afternoon sun, but you nowhere to be seen.
He walks deeper into the garden, only to see another note on your favourite chair.
Getting warmer. Take a look underneath.
Dwalin flipped the note over, but didn't see anything, causing him to frown before he saw there was a single leaf on the chair where the note had been.
A small smile crossed his lips as he picked up the leaf and he hurried back to grab his axe and start off down a path.
The tree was in the centre of town, one you had helped care for when the city was being rebuilt. There was another note on the trunk, the people around barely noticed, too busy trying to pack up and go home for the evening.
My clever bear. I hope you don't forget today.
Dwalin chuckled, tucking the note away and continuing along, humming to himself.
The door to the bakery opened with a small chime and the baker grinned at Dwalin. "Right on time sir."
Dwalin grins and shakes his head. "How does she do it?"
The baker winks as he hands him a basket, a note on top. "Women are a mystery we aren't meant to understand Master Dwalin, but you got yourself a good one there."
Dwalin thanks him and steps outside before he reads the final note.
Only one more step. A golden path ahead.
He shakes his head, not caring about the odd looks he got from passers-by, it wasn't every day that they saw the burly dwarf carrying a basket so delicately, but no one interrupted him and Dwalin would've ignored them if they tried.
The path he followed led away from the town and out into the fields, the mountain glowing in the afternoon light, the raven's flying free, carrying messages for the King, a white glow was forming around them as the sunlight hit the snow, and it just made Dwalin's smile grow wider.
He saw you first, sitting in an open field, a freshly made flower crown upon your head, staring at the sight of the mountain before you, your legs tucked under you on the open blanket, a second basket by your side.
"I brought food!" He announced loudly as he approached.
Your laughter carried to him as you faced him, a wide smile on your face. "My hero. Here I was thinking that I'd have to drink alone."
"I'd never do that to you." He said gruffly as he placed the basket and his axe down, but before he could do anything else, you were on your feet and your arms were wrapped around him, a hold he quickly returns.
"I love you Dwalin." You said against him.
He kisses the top of your head. "I love you too my one."
You smile up at him. "Happy anniversary."
Dwalin cups your cheeks and places a gentle kiss on your lips. "Happy anniversary."
