I'd been in New York for three days, and it was time for me to go back home. Thing is, I didn't want to leave. Shannon was getting better and I wanted to be there when he started walking again.
"C'mon, Kathryn," mom said, frustrated. "We NEED to go NOW or we'll miss our flight!" I was sitting in my hotel room with Mom and Dad banging on the door to try and get me to come out.
"I don't care if we miss our flight! I'm staying HERE! I'm staying with Shannon!" I heard a sigh then footsteps heading away from my door. I got up and walked over to my door and looked put the peephole. No one was there, so I opened the door, and sure enough, there was Dad and he charged through the door and grabbed my suitcase while Mom held me back. I can't believe I fell for that AGAIN. I reluctantly walked down to the lobby and out to the car to put my suitcase in the trunk. I got in the backseat and Dad and Mom got in and we drove away to the airport.
I remembered this route too easily. It was the same way we took to the airport when we first moved to Alberta. I didn't notic the tears streaming down my face until Mom turned around and wiped them with a tissue. "I don't want to go..." I said quietly, mostly to myself.
"I know, honey, but what about Matt and Addison? Won't you miss them?" I'd never thought about it that way. "You're going to have to let go of one place, Kathryn. You can't live in both the U.S. and Canada. Let go of here. It'll be best for you."

We were welcomed back to Alberta by Addison and Matt, who had waited there all morning just to see me.
"Awww... guys, you didn't have to," I said when they told me. I was still upset about leaving Shannon, but I decided to take Mom's advce and just let go of my old life.
New friends, new town, new beginnings.
