Mom picked us up from school and we headed straight to the hospital to see Addison and Mrs. Greene. We went straight to the room and as soon as we walked in Addison's face lit up.
"Hey, Addison, what's up?" I asked her.
"Not much, just staring at the cieling, since there's nobody to talk to and nothing to do..." she replied, sounding somewhat like Eeyore.
"Well, don't be too sure about that," Matt said. "You now have... pause for dramatic effect... HOMEWORK!"
"Great. Homwork. More like hospital work," Addison said sarcastically. "Yay."
"It's easy," I reassured her. "All you have to do is..."
"BORING!" She cut me off.
"Allright, then you can fail. Not my problem."
"Fine, what do I need to do?"
As I explained the problems to Addison, Matt sat next to their mother and prayed. Probably for her to wake up,I thought. Then suddenly, with a large gasp, Mrs. Greene did wake up and nurses started rushing in the room pushing Matt aside to get to her.
"MOM!" Addison screamed. Matt was in shock, and he couldn't say anything or do anything but stand there. The doctor took Matt and I out of the room while they did something with Mrs. Greene and Addison. Matt held me, terrified, still in shock. After what seemed like an eternity, the doctor came out and said, "She is stable, and awake. It's a miracle."
"Can I see her?" Matt asked. "I mean, can we see her?"
"Yes, actually she requested you go in right away."
Matt grabbed my hand and rushed past the doctor. The door swung open and we went in without letting the nurses out. "Mom!" He breathed out relieved.
"Oh, Matt, Addison, Kathryn, I'm so glad you're okay," she said.
"What do you remember?" Addison asked, standing next to us, finally allowed out of bed.
"A car coming at us from the side, us going into the ditch, then I blacked out. I can't remember who was in the car, but I can see now that it was just you and I, Addison."
"Yes, Mom, just us. I'm okay, are you?"
"I will be. A few more days and I should be fine."
"Thank God." Matt and Addison said it at the exact same time.
The doctor came in and asked me and Matt to go see him in the hallway.
"I have some good news, Matthew," he started. "Your mom and sister will be going home tomorrow."
Matt let out a long sigh of relief. "Thank you, doctor..." He squinted to read his name tag. "Lamlet."
We walked back into the room and delivered the news to them. "Fantastic! I'll finally get real food!" was Addison's reaction. Mrs. Greene just let out a sigh of relief, like Matt.
"Matt, I have something to tell you tomorrow, okay? It's a surprise for both of you," she said, and went to sleep.
