11:05AM — KyungsooI grabbed my backpack, "Umma, I'll get some coffee. I might even stay there for a while, I'll see you later." I shouted as I wore my Old Skool Vans and looked back at my mother. She was watching Back to the Future 2. I pursed my lips and left her alone on our house. The cafes here in Southville are crowded and noisy. I had to go somewhere far just to buy drink and stay there.
Moving here in Los Angeles was a huge step for us. I enjoyed living in Korea for 23 years, I had so many friends there but my mother and stepfather decided to move here so it'll be easier for them.
Would it be easier for me? I don't think so. I had to beg and kneeled in front of them just to leave me in Korea instead since I'm already legal but they wouldn't let me. I love my mom, her husband is nice, but I hate them for this.
It was hard for me leaving Korea, I had to say good bye to my friends. I had to leave my dog and cats, which I gave to my friends, Kai, Chanyeol, and Xiumin. I trust them so, I gave Avocado and the twins to them.
It's been a month since we moved here, I also started University. I'm currently studying Creative Writing in University of Los Angeles, which is, one of the famous universities here in America. My stepfather is a professor there so it was easier for me to get in.
Honestly, my some of my new classmates were nice, some of them were also Korean or—half Korean, which is I'm really thankful for. I did learn English because of my past school and my mother taught me too.
But even I have nice classmates, I don't still consider them as my friends.
Yes, your Asian-boy got some trust issues.
I walked past some cafes, I was looking for a cafe that has a good-ambience. I saw one, it's quiet big, there were many customers, probably because it's the weekend and people likes coffee. I entered the cafe and I was greeted by this girl.
This girl.
She smiled and greeted me. I almost froze on where I was standing. Her eyes, her lips. They made my day better. I analyzed her, she was wearing a denim polo which was tucked in her black skinny jeans. She was also wearing an apron and it has a tag that says her name.
Leila Park.
Or Park Leila.
I wish that she'll ask my name when she takes my order. I want her to remember me. She was around my age, or maybe a year younger. I went to the counter and asked, "Annyeong, this is my first time here in this cafe, do you have any suggestions? drink and pastry please."
It was really my first time here. She started suggesting, she keeps on eyeing on the blueberry cheesecake. "Maybe she was craving?" I thought. I furrowed my eyebrows and pursed my lips, I listened to her sweet voice.
That voice.
I ordered 1 Medium sized Hot white chocolate and 2 blueberry cheesecakes which she suggested. I said that the other cheesecake will be to go.
"That would be 11 dollars and 90 cents please." She said as I handed her my payment. "I'll just bring your order on your table, have a seat." She nodded and pointed me to a vacant table, beside the table was the window.
I went there and the view was amazing.
No, I wasn't talking about outside the window, I was talking about her.
She was so focused on making my drink, but even she was so focused, she almost dropped the box of milk.
Clumsy, how cute.
After making my drink, she wrapped my (or her) to-go blueberry cheesecake and placed the other one to a white ceramic plate. She looked at my direction and I looked away, was I too obvious?
She went to my table and placed my orders on the table. She bowed and quickly turned around, but I grabbed her wrist and handed her the to-go.
I said, "Hey, the to-go cheesecake is for you. Thank you for helping me ordering. This may sound weird but you made my day better, here's a little treat."
"Oh, kamsa hamnida, but can I ask how I made your day better? If it's okay." she bowed and politely asked. "Thank you for the cheesecake, I've been craving for this."
Her smile. Her greeting. She made me happy today. She looked at me and pursed her lips.
"Your smile and the way you greeted me. Enjoy your cheesecake." I simply said and smiled.
I was disappointed that she didn't ask my name earlier. I wish she did though.
But I was wrong, I'm no longer disappointed because she turned around and politely asked, "Hyung, what's your name?"
Aish, she called me Hyung. I hope next time she'll came me love—ha, kidding. I hope she'll call my name from now on. Even she looks younger than me.
I sighed and smiled, "Do Kyungsoo."
"Nice meeting you, Kyungsoo." She nodded and went back to the counter.
Nice meeting you, Kyungsoo.
I froze, I couldn't even eat my cheesecake and I just stared at my table. She made my heart flutter. She made me so happy.
I hope I can make her smile like she made me smile earlier.
I hope we'll get closer.
