-Chapter Three-

'Could it be steam from a titan?!'

'It's coming from inside Wall Sina!' The chaos from that moment, although it could've been greater, sent nearly everyone running toward the area. Jean was already on one of the rooves when everyone else joined him to start running and stand atop the innermost wall of Wall Sina, just to try and get a better view of what was going on, blades in hands at the ready, only to find out later that it was Eren Jaeger, potentially the most troublesome of them all, and his newly discovered 'titan powers'. They'd cause more trouble than they're worth, Jean thought. He'd never particularly liked the kid anyway, but now he had more reason to doubt his sincerity in any situation. Hundreds- no, thousands of people had already died at the hands of the titans, and now he's telling us that he can turn himself into one of them. They could've used that information a good ten years ago. Fair enough, using the ability to protect Mikasa and Armin was somewhat respectable, only because they'd known one another for so long they were literally family; Eren and Mikasa most of all, what with having grown up with the same parents and all that.

However, nobody expected it when Jaeger was locked up and accused of actually being a titan himself, but disguised as a human just talking their language, even though he'd taken down at least twenty titans single-handedly in his wake. Ridiculous. When people with the power to lock someone up like that are blinded by fear, they only see threats; and the only solution to remove the threats is to destroy them apparently. Jean didn't see any reason to have faith for their species at all when they'd willingly kill each other to remove a slight threat even if it could be potentially helpful.

'Mikasa Ackerman! Armin Arlet! Are you in here?!' Everyone spun around to where the voice came from and then turned to look at the two in question, who were then taken out to go to Eren's court trial to decide what would be done with him.

'I don't see the need for a trial..' Marco muttered, causing Jean to turn his head and look at him, nodding in agreement.

'Apparently the Scouting Legion wants him, Captain Levi seemed very adamant about that from the start, and no doubt Smith will too.' He responded, earning a nod from Marco like he'd done just moments ago.

'I swear there's something going on there. Rivaille and Smith, I mean.' Marco uttered, presumably so nobody else could hear.

'Too far up each other's asses to be anything less than secret lovers, right?' Jean chuckled, 'They're always with each other though. Find Levi, if you touch him then you lose the finger that did so because Erwin's there too.' Marco laughed at that, which made Jean laugh too but not as much as the taller boy. They got a few odd glances from people who were seriously discussing Eren's trial, worried about what would happen if the Scouting Legion were denied 'ownership' of him. Would he be killed? Cast outside the walls like any other titan? Who knows? But after a little more conversation, neither of them could stop laughing, so they excused themselves from the dining rooms to calm down outside.

'I don't think I've ever laughed that much since I was a kid.' Marco muttered, although he was still smiling. Jean made a sound that came out as an 'mm' of agreement, as that applied to him too.

'Kind of hard to find things you can laugh about though really.' Sighed Jean. They were walking side by side, simply walking around the dining hall in circles and enjoying the peaceful, cool, night air; literally sapping it up. At one point, Marco must've got bored of walking, because he suddenly sat down at the back of the dining hall, on the floor and leant against the building, so Jean copied him and sat beside him.

'You get tired?' He chuckled, and Marco nodded. They were facing each other again and their faces were close, so Jean looked away so he wouldn't get the wrong idea. He flushed a new

shade of red that he'd never seen any person display before though, when Marco rested his hand atop Jean's and kissed his cheek (or, at least, the very edge of his cheek near where the hair starts). 'What was that for?' He asked, looking to Marco and chewing on his lip.

'Got bored as well.' Was the answer. Short. Sweet . Simple. But still the perfect thing to say in this incident.
