I hear a grunt followed by a short fit of growling. Amazed that my face was still intact I opened my eyes to see a deep russet coloured male Lycan with dark chocolate dorsal markings standing between me and Suede, her unsheathed paw locked in his onyx grey one, claws hidden.
I lifted my head, to look up at the male who'd come to my rescue. 'Lamaar?' I thought, lifting my ears from the lowered position they were in as I straightened my body. As the name came to mind I felt the icy heat subside and eventually fade, and the feeling of an oncoming panic attack was gone. I pawed my face awkwardly as the feeling left, and looked up as a voice barked. "Back off."
Lamaar stood between me and the slightly larger female and snarled, staring at Suede with piercing amber-yellow irises. I peeked around Lamaar's tall body. Mauki stood by, tensed and physically prepared for a possible fight but seeming ensure of what she'd do if push came to shove. Shocked, Suede tensed her muscles, trying to wrench her paw out of his grip. She took a quick glance behind him and saw me. I was no longer cowering, but still scared all the same. A subtle smirk crossed her jaw as she locked eyes with me. With eyes a clear blue, the heather gray female retracted her claws and stared back at Lamaar with a soft and seductive glare on her face.
"You're holding onto me awfully long Lamaar." She cooed, increasing the weight of her stare. Lamaar quickly let go of her wrist afterwards, producing a chuckle from both females. Unknowingly, my jaws rippled into a snarl and I stepped forward, only to have Lamaar wave me back with his tail.
"Don't you two bored broads have somewhere to be?" He asked in an irritated manner.
"Who says we can't be here?" Mauki retorted quickly with a nasty tone. I watched her square her shoulders off and lock her eyes in a dead stare with Lamaar while Suede stood nearby flexing her claws in and out of their sheaths.
I watched them both from behind Lamaar with on thought on my mind. 'Please don't start fighting. Please don't start fighting...' I was horrified. If a fight did start, naturally Lamaar would go for Mauki, the larger of the two, leaving Suede to me. And after the stunt I pulled when she'd pinned me against the tree, there was no way I'd get out unscathed. I watched Lamaar closely to see his response. I opened my mouth to say something, but before I could Lamaar mock charged at both Mauki and my twin, with a brief but loud roar.
"Who says?" He repeats rushing at them once more and stopping a few feet short. "Maybe the Delta that's in charge of grounds keepin' today." He replied, referring to himself as he answered his own question. "And ol' boy ain't gonna be too pleased to hear 'bout two lazy tick magnets harassing omegas when we got borders that need to be protected and over fifty mouths to feed. I ain't even count the jits." He finished, a growl rolling steady in his throat and the guard hairs down his back rising slowly.
I could feel the low rumbling of his growl in my chest and it inspired a sort of courage in me. I'd never heard a growl so throaty and thick - well, except for Mortem's. I stepped up beside him and drew my lips back into growling snarl; one that must have looked embarrassingly cute compared to Lamaar's. I was awfully small compared to him, standing at average lycaness height - only 6'2" - beside his staggering 6'10" or 11.
"Beat it." Lamaar said with another short roar at the females, both of our tails lashing back and forth.
Defeated, Mauki and Suede both stepped back, and after a while turned to leave. Mauki looked back at me one more time before she left the drinking pool. "Watch your back, omega." She growled before following Suede out of the area. Ooooh how I hated that word. I watched her tail disappear between the bushes and flinched as he turned to me.
"They hurt you?" He said becoming soft and gentle when he came near, holding out a paw. It amazed me how quickly his snarl receeded.
"No, I um..." I paused as we locked eyes, wrapping my arms around my upper body. "I'm alright.. thank you." I lied trying to cover a small cut on my left upper arm with a paw.
