"Kieran!"
"Sonja?" We exclaimed together, me more surprised than she was She moved over to me in a flurry and gave me a brief hug. I was shaken by this sudden exchange, but smiled instead.
"What are you doing here?" I asked her. "Just came out for the night with my brother." She waved to Joshua and my eyes widened in surprise.
"Well don't look so shocked, he knows he got the looks and I have the brains." She stuck her tongue out to Joshua and he laughed.
I watched Sonja as she moved away from me and back to the table where the rest of their group was seated.
"Don't just stand there, let me buy you a beer." Joshua patted me on the shoulder.
"I'm good thanks, I've had enough for the evening." And I did, my mind was all over the place, but in one place.
"Enough is never enough. Come on." He had me around the neck and we stumbled over to the bar.
"Two Heinekens." Joshua said.
"Two Heinekens on it's way." Said the sexy bartender. Joshua watched her as she moved swiftly over to the fridge and shook his head and grinned.
"She's fine." He said and smiled at her when she looked at us over her shoulder with smouldering eyes. Slowly and seductively she sashayed over to the two of us with a heineken in each hand.
"Here you go." She smiled.
"Thank you gorgeous." Joshua said. I took my heineken and gulped without looking back at her.
"What time do you get off?" I heard him yell into her ear.
"Wouldn't you like to know?" She grinned and tended to the customer next to me.
"Oh, we'd get off just in time."
I could see Joshua's mind working over time as we watched the bartender move back and forth until two pale hands covered his eyes.
"Hey handsome."
"Sherri?" Joshua moved the girl's hands from his eyes and turned around.
"Sherri baby!" He picked her up in a quick move and she shrilled as he lifted her off her feet.
"How's the best boyfriend in the world?" She grinned and I almost choked on my drink. Joshua looked at me and gave a nervous smile.
"Great now that you're here. How did you know I was here?"
"I phoned Sonja." She pointed to Sonja who was laughing her head off at the table not too far away from us.
Joshua sighed and realised what he did and chuckled.
"I was wondering what was taking you so long to get here." That seemed to woo her and she putty in his arms again. I didn't get it, as I stood there in my drunken daze, I didn't get it. I'm  sure she must have some clue that she might not be the only girl in Joshua's life. I mean, I barely knew him that well and I could already see what was going on between the two of them.
"There you are!" Louis jumped down next to me with his new girlfriend in tow. "Kayla is a little bored of this place, are you ready to leave yet?"
Before I could get a word out, Joshua already answered for me. "He'll stay with us. You can go ahead. Hi, I'm Joshua, Kieran's surfing buddy." Louis gave Joshua a once over and nodded in acknowledgment. "So what do you say Kieran? Your dad said not too late remember."
"Boo, who are you? His mother?" Joshua laughed and so did Sherri. Louis looked at me with no expression on his face. I shrugged and looked at Joshua who was whispering into Sherri's ear.
"It's okay, you kids go on and have some fun."
"Are you sure?" Louis asked.
"Yes." I gritted my teeth slowly.
"All right then, see you Monday." Louis and Kayla turned around and walked away from us.
"Party, party!" Joshua reached for a high five from me and I gave him one.
I think the reason why I stayed behind was because Joshua didn't really know my story. That's what I assumed, I'd have thought his sister would have mentioned it to him on arrival already, but she didn't. I was glad.

"I want to go and say hi to the rest of the gang. I saw them earlier but I didn't want to go alone." Sherri whined and I rolled my eyes. She was becoming a little annoying with her tiny, whiny voice. I didn't blame Joshua anymore for looking around.
"I'll lead the way." Joshua said. "Come on Kieran, stick with me."
"Are you going to make me famous?" I asked as an attempt to make a joke and both of them actually laughed. I made someone laugh. Huh.
"Sonny!" Sherri shrieked and Sonja turned around. She looked at me first and then at Sherri and scrunched her face into a smile.
"Sherri," she drawled. "Fancy bumping into you here." Sonja looked nervously at Joshua.
"Yeah, I'm so glad she's here." Joshua said through gritted teeth and raised eyebrows. I almost laughed at the oblivious girl hanging on Joshua's arm.
"How rude of you Sonja, you didn't even introduce us to your friend?" I felt everybody's eyes on me. Two girls were staring at me expectantly and three other guys continued or pretended talking.
"This is Kieran, and this is Krissy," she showed to a brunette girl with dark lips and a skimpy dress I didn't even need to see the full dress before knowing it was skimpy. "and  Janay." Jana smiled shyly at me and continued sipping her drink.
"The rest of them are just my brothers moronic friends, no introduction needed." Sonja rolled her eyes.
"Hey!" One of the guys said. "I'm Clay, just because she didn't want to introduce us." Clay stuck out his hand to me. He was just a head shorter than me with brown hair and an impish looking face. "This is Don," Don looked like he didn't want to be here, and I noticed that he looked that the whole time, so it might be his real face.
"J.P." Clay nodded to a tall, stick thin pale skinned boy with bleached hair.
"What's up?" J.P said.
"You're all boring me with this introductions," Krissy exclaimed.
"Let's dance Keenan." I almost corrected her but just smiled it away as she took my hand.
"So you and Sonja?" She whispered in my ear as we danced to the fast rhythm.
"She's in one of my classes."
"That says nothing."
"What should it say?"
"She's pretty, why haven't you asked her to dance yet?"
I hesitated a little before answering, it was kind of an unexpected.
"I'm dancing with you?" I asked stupidly.
"Sure you are." She laughed.
"I didn't expect her to be here. I didn't expect anyone to be here who I know."
"Hiding?"
"No." I said.
"Sure." She smiled. "I love this song!" She hopped up and down causing her boobs to bounce.
"Okay, enough showing off now." Someone said from behind me. I turned around and saw Don staring at Krissy bored.
"Look who finally decides to show up to the party." Krissy hollered.
"I'll take it from here." He gently pushed me out of the way and I was confused. What was going on?
"Don't take it personally Keenan you're just another casualty to this couple's insanity." Sonja said next to me.
"Okay. Noted."
"Krissy tries too hard to make him jealous 'cause she thinks he doesn't take note of her, but Don is so blindly in love with her he gets frustrated that she doesn't see it so he ignores her... Sometimes." Both of us looked at the kissing couple slowing dancing to a remixed song of Billy Jean.
"You and your brother know some crazy people."
"We're all crazy." She grinned.
"You?" I laughed. "Of course you'd laugh. I call it professionalism. At school, I'm all about schoolwork and private life stays just that."
"It's kind of deceiving if you ask me."
"Call it what you must, it keeps the cool kids away."
"How much did you have to drink?" I asked.
"Enough." She grinned.
"Want another?"
"Definately. But don't get any ideas, I know where you stay."
"I won't."
