We were all standing outside of the club, not sober at all and I could barely keep my head up anymore.
"I'm not a hanger you know." Came Sonja's whiny and drunk voice.
"Stand still, would you?" I said as my head rested on her left shoulder.
"No." She shook her body and I almost fell to the ground.
"Rude." I clicked my tongue at her and she grinned.
Something came over me, I still don't know why I did it, but it happened.
I kissed Sonja. A really drunk, unworthy of remembering kiss. She stepped back immediately and so did I.
"I... we..." Sonja looked everywhere but at me.
"Josh! Are you done sucking face already?!" She turned and walked away from me and walked over to the rest of her group who was all standing at the edge of the pavement. All oblivious to what had happened.
We had called an uber, because none of us could drive, and I came with Louis who had left hours ago. Now, hours later, I lay in my bed praying that last night did not happen. I didn't mean anything by it, it was just a stupid kiss. How was I going to face her again at school? I feel like a silly teenager now, who's only problems are just about girls and rugby, but it's not and that's the nerve wracking part.
Luckily, Sunday went by very fast, as I was sleeping the crazy hangover off.
I imagined myself, then and there, in a parallel world. A world where everything was perfect. I had a girlfriend named Emma, my mom co-existed with my father where they constantly argued over trivial things, I was the handsome popular kid who plays rugby for his school and all my classmates worshipped the ground I walked on and I never kissed Sonja last night.
But I'm not in a parallel so. This is my reality, and it freaking sucks.~
"What sucks?" I asked her. We were sitting on the bonnet of my car, right on top of Signal hill, overlooking the tiny buildings, lion's head and the ocean.
"What doesn't suck?" She asked rhetorically and I laughed.
"Touchè."
"I mean, we try to live right according to the great book, but what do we get out of it? Nothing's promised. So we try to live like great people, but no matter what, we will still die. That sucks."
"Oh my god, why are you so mellow? It's our anniversary babe, don't dull it."
"I'm sorry. We should go, your friends are probably still waiting for the chips and drinks." She stared further into the sea.
"I'm sorry they're ruining our day."
"It's okay, 'All I want is the taste that your lips allow,' remember? Nobody can ruin any day for us."
I tightened my hand around hers and kissed her. We both smiled after we kissed and leaned into each other, as the world got too heavy for us.-------------------------------------------------------------
