Payton huffed, leaning his head against the window of the bus as the once again drunk lady drove them home. He took the moment he had alone to finally look back on to what had happened a few hours before, his lips twitching up into a small smile.

-----

Payton strolled into the cafeteria, looking around the room with a frown. He didn't want to sit near anyone- but it seemed that all of the tables were occupied by multiple people.

How this small town had so many kids, the world will never know. "Oi! New Kid!" He was snapped out of his thoughts by the voice he had dreaded hearing. "Get your ass over here!" The kid was grinning, an almost authoritative gleam in his eyes as he stared him down from the other side of the room.

A few pitiful glances were sent towards Payton as he huffed, quietly shuffling over to the table. Instead of sitting next to whom was called "fatass" aka the person who had called me over like he had likely wanted me to, I sat next to Kyle and another kid in a orange parka.

"My name isn't 'New Kid'; It's Payton, you fuckwad" Payton glared at him, his statement earning a few snickers from the surrounding party.

"Whatever, new kid" Cartman said, waving him off like it was nothing. Payton narrowed his eyes, but sank into his seat a bit when he thought of what his mother would do if he were to get into a fight and lose.

"Okay, fatass" Payton mumbled, making sure his voice wasn't loud enough for anyone but the person next to him to hear.

"Hey Payton, wanna come hang out after school? I can show you around town if you want" Kyle offered. Payton nodded in response, now grinning. "Sure. I just have to go home to tell my parent's where I'll be first"

Kyle frowned, looking at the other teen curiously. Payton had a phone, so why didn't he just use it to call his parents? He shook off the question after a few minutes, figuring that it was because he was out of minutes.

Payton spaced out for a few minutes, obviously uncomfortable that he was surrounded by people who he didn't even know. He jumped as a hand was placed on his shoulder, quickly eblowing the assailant in the face before jumping back out of his seat.

"Dude? What the fuck?!" The muffled yell of the teen who Payton had been sitting next to sounding out. He flinched, blinking a few times before realizing what he had done.

He wasn't being attacked at all.

The teen was just putting a hand on his shoulder to comfort him after seeing that he had spaced out.

"I'm-" Payton swallowed thickly, taking the moment that he had taken by stuttering to examen the damage that he had done. Blood trailed from the boy's noise, a black and blue bruise forming where Payton had hit him. The other occupant's eyes of the table were on Payton now, most of them sending glares at the guilty teen.

"I'm sorry" Tears came to Payton's eyes as guilt filled his senses. Why was he so stupid? Why did he even sit next to them? Were they going to hate him now?

"It's fine" Most of Payton's worries were pushed away at the sound of those two words. He sat back down, ignoring the stares of another kid who had flipped him off. Payton apologized profusely, the tears in his eyes now gone and instead replaced with worry.

The rest of the lunch period had included Payton simply trying his best not to start dissociating again, listening to the other boy's conversations instead of listening to music.

----------------------------------

Payton nervously knocked on the door of Kyle's home, the half face mask that he had left behind at home earlier in the day now on his face. A heavy set woman came to the door, smiling at the sight of the the teen. "Ah. You must be the one of the new people in town" He narrowed his eyes at being called the 'new kid' again, simply nodding his head in reply.

"Come in" She moved out of the way, in which Payton shuffled his way into the house. The teen silently took in his surroundings for a moment before looking over at Kyle's mother. "Do you know where Kyle is?"

She nodded. "Come with me". Payton nodded again, this time huffing in annoyance at the woman. How could a parent be so,,,happy?

He didn't understand people in this town at all.

------------------------------------

Payton layed back on the bed he was on, sighing in content. He had been over at his new friends house for a couple hours now- and he knew he needed to go home soon.

"So where did you live before coming here?" Kyle spoke up, setting aside the video game controller and instead looking at the brown haired male. Payton hummed in thought for a moment, thinking of wither or not to tell him.

"I used to live in new york"

"Sooo- New York City? Did you join a gang or something like that-?"

Payton chuckled, rolling his eyes at the other. "No. I meant upstate new york. Upstate new york doesn't have many gangs unless you count the ones in Buffalo and Rochester"

"Oh."

He grinned at his new friend, sitting up from where he was once laying.

Suddenly his phone went off, and Payton jumped; his eyes wide with fear and surprise. "I'm sorry I just really have to go" Kyle looked at him quizzically, nodding after noticing his friends fear stricken face.

"See you tomorrow" He called out, a distant 'see you later' being heard as Payton quickly left and went home for the night.
