....*chirp*chirp*....*chirp*chirp* My phone blares just under my pillow. My eyes are still closed as I blindly search for the devilish device that woke me up. I grasp the cold metal and try to look at the screen to see what ungodly hour it was. As my eyes adjusted I could make out 3:14 AM.
"You have to be shitting me." I groan, knowing I have work in 4 hours and needed all the sleep I could get. I wipe my eyes and groggily unlock my phone. No messages, no calls, no facetimes, no Pinterest notifications... I quickly go down the list, just ready to fall back asleep.
Twitter..? I rarely get Twitter notifications. I think to myself as the app is loading. Twitter opens to my DM page and I was immediately wide awake.
"No. Fucking. Way." I say quite loudly, most definitely waking up my roommates, but I couldn't care less.
I basically fall out of bed and sprint toward Cayla's room. I burst through the door, flip on the light, and flop myself on top of her. She screams out of fear and as I'm screaming from the adrenaline running through my veins. Before either her or I can stop screaming to say something, our other roommate, Jeff, comes running in.
"What the hell is going on?!" He loudly questions as he only sees me straddling Cayla.
"I don't have a fucking clue, she came in like maniac and jumped on me!" Cayla breathed, clearly still startled from my entrance. I couldn't speak, I was too excited, the words wouldn't come out. I just looked at both of them with the biggest smile spread across my face and held out my phone. Jeff came and sat on the edge of the bed and Cayla wiggled out from under me. Jeff just glanced at my phone and gave me a dirty look.
"You really woke us up because someone DMed you? Hallie that's really... sad actually." He said, obviously annoyed. Cayla must have noticed the disappointment on my face because she took the device out of my hands and started reading the actual message. After a few seconds, her eyes were as wide as I've ever seen them.
"Oh my god, you actually won!" She grabbed my arms and did a little dance with me.
"Won what?" Jeff asked picking up my phone. He was squinting at my screen when I interrupted.
"Rememberiborrowedyourcameratofilmavideoforacontestformyfavoriteyoutubersabouttwowe-" I vomited the words out as quickly as I could until Jeff stopped me.
"Okay okay okay," he shout whispered at me "...so like, can talk about this later, you know when it's not the ass crack of dawn?" He begged as he rubbed his temples and stood up.
"Absolutely and we'll talk about it until the second I leave!" I squealed as he walked down the hall back to his room.
Cayla stayed up with me for a little while and helped me write out my reply. Just a little bit after 4:30, Cayla crashed, but there was no way I was going to be able to fall back asleep. I slipped out of the room, much quieter this time and made my way to the kitchen. I poured myself a glass of orange juice, grabbed my box of Cheerios, and found a comfy spot on the couch. I turned the TV on, not to watch it, just so the silence wouldn't be so deafening. I scrolled through the Internet and started shopping to my heart's content. I've never been to California or met the people I'll be staying with- so, this summer, I'm going to look damn fine.
