Brittany closed her bedroom door behind her and sunk down to a sitting position as she did so. She couldn't help but let out a small giggle as she recalled the events that happened earlier that day.
She couldn't believe it. Someone had, dare she say it, flirted with her. Her! The sister of the scariest girl in school! The sister of the person hallways clear for! No one has ever talked to her like that because of how terrified they were of Kaitlyn! Of course, there was the problem of Logan finding out about her scars, but as long as she hid them until he earned her trust, it should be fine, right? She couldn't help but wonder if he was going to be the person who saves her, the person who teaches her that someone can love her for her, and that her future isn't going to forever held in Kaitlyn's iron fist.
Her happiness was interrupted by a hesitant set of knocks at her door. She got up and opened the door, her smile turning into a frown as she saw who it was on the other side.
"What are you doing here, Kaitlyn?" Brittany asked. The sister in question never went to Brittany's door. In fact, she avoided that part of the house like the plague.
Kaitlyn ignores the question. "I heard that you were talking to Logan during school. Is that true?"
Brittany was shocked at her sister actually asking her a question about her day, much less her love life. Well, soon to be love-life, hopefully. "W-why would I tell you?" Brittany cursed herself mentally for stuttering during what was supposed to be a clever comeback to earn herself some respect from her sister.
"Just tell me, please."
Brittany stared, flabbergasted. Kaitlyn hadn't said please in so long, Brittany almost forgot that she could. "Yes, I was talking to Logan. Why do you ask?"
Kaitlyn crossed her arms and looked away, biting her lip for a moment. When she looked back, she said "I think you should stay away from him. He's not a good person."
Brittany couldn't help the feelings of hurt and betrayal and anger that went through her when her sister, her own family, was telling her not to go after something that makes her happy. That's not what family is supposed to do, that's especially not what her sister should do! Her sister should be giggling with her and helping her plan her outfit for tomorrow! She should be telling her what to expect from boys, and give her confidence! Not this!
"Why do you always do this to me?" She screamed. "Why are you so determined to take away every chance of happiness I have? First you take away my sister, then my father, then all of my friends at school! What did I ever do to you? When mom died, I tried to reach out to you, but you shut me out! And now you're here trying to tell me to stay away from a guy? Why? Why Kaitlyn?" Kaitlyn didn't respond, just stood there with her mouth gaped open in surprise. Brittany was surprised to; she couldn't remeb the last time she had ever screamed like that.
"Logan is a part of a gang. They've been trying to kidnap the kids of rich people for ransom. They're after us next. One of them tried to get me the other day." Kaitlyn's voice shook. "Look, I know you have no reason to trust me, but you have to believe me, he's no good. You need to stay away from him if you want to be safe, or at least carry some pepper spray with you."
Kaitlyn tossed her pepper spray ont Brittany's bed and walked away quickly, and Brittany closed her door silently. She stood there, with her hand on the handle and her head bent. She could feel the tears prickling the backs of her eyes, and the sob building in her throat.
How could I have been stupid, she thought to herself, like anyone would actually like me like that. She went to her bed, grabbed a pillow and sobbed. She knew that she had no reason to think that anyone would ever think of her like that. If her sister couldn't love her in a family way, how could someone love her in a romantical way?
No one, she answered herself. Absolutely no one.

"So, who are we going to try to get out of Drama? It has to be one of the people at top." Mackenzie said as she and Marco plopped down on he couch at her house to work on homework.
"You mean the seniors?" Marco asked as he got out his Trigonometry homework with a scowl.
"Who else would I mean?" She replied, taking out her notes to study for her History test. "By the way, I think you should study for History first. It's our first class of the day, and that way we can quiz each other." She suggested, flipping to the right page in her notebook.
"Anything to postpone Trigonometry. We'll use your notes?" He said, tossing aside the problems with a relieved sigh.
"Yup. So, do you want me to quiz you first or vice versa?"
"Definitely vice versa. Knowing you, you've been studying the notes as we take them you little genius." He said, pulling her closer and kissing her temple. He smiled even bigger when he heard her giggle. "And, I think if we challenge anyone to the Drama club bet, it should be a junior, like us. That way it's less competition."
She gasped and turned to him. "That's right! Look at you, having such great ideas." She said, running her hand through his hair again.
"It's been known to happen." He leaned closer and kissed her on the lips. She looped her another arm around his neck, kissing him back before pushing back on his chest slightly.
"No, Marco, we really got to study this time." She said putting her notes in his lap and sitting across from him, cross-legged.
Marco laughed. "A guy can hope, right? Now, who was the person arrested for killing President Kennedy?"
(Again, very sorry, and please treat this a page break. Thank you for reading.)
Rae was pleasantly munching on some chicken her dad had baked for dinner, when she summoned up her courage and faced her father.
"Dad, I would like to inform you that I have plans Friday after school. I should still be home well before dinner though." She said, hoping her dad wouldn't notice her nervous formal tone of voice.
"Okay, don't even think I didn't catch the way you were talking, sweetie, I'm your father. What are you doing?" He said, pointing his fork at her and smiling.
"I will be meeting someone to discuss Shakespeare." She said, more relaxed.
Her dad furrowed his brows. "Are you tutoring somebody?" He asked.
"No, it's someone from Drama." She said, stuffing some green beans in her mouth after she was done so she couldn't talk anymore.
Her father sat back, narrowing his eyes at her suspiciously. "Is it that boy you were talking to me about?"
Rae just nodded slowly, since her mouth was still full. Her dad took a deep breath and got up to grab something out of the drawer in the kitchen where the keep almost anything that would fit in there. When he grabbed a small cylinder, he walked back to kitchen and dropped on the table near her.
By this time, Rae had swallowed her green beans. "Pepper spray, dad, really?"
"I am trying to keep my little girl safe. So, you know the drill. When you leave to go there, text me and text me how you're getting there. Then text me when you get there. When you're ready to leave, text me and tell me how you're getting home. You remember our safe word?"
Rae picked up the pepper spray and nodded.
"Thank you, princess. Just want to know you're safe."
"I know, dad. I will be." They both smiled and returned comfortably to their dinner. After Rae's father made sure that she put the pepper in her bag, of course.
( AN: Again, I am very sorry for the lack of horizontal lines. I had to switch to using my phone to put these chapters up, and that doesn't offer a horizontal line. Thank you all for reading, and have a nice day.)
