Chapter 19: SOS
Because of a certain someone, I was expected to go on a date with a certain someone else. I felt like continuously slamming my head against a wall because of the set-up but I didn't. At least to say, I did metaphorically.
The last technical date I had gone to with was with Joey to that stupid restaurant. It felt like it was ages ago but in reality, it was maybe a month or two ago at most, I would've known if I stopped losing track of time. However, this date wasn't out to eat but the typical cinema date. The thought of sitting in a packed room watching a movie that was a surprise didn't really appeal to me but I wasn't allowed to back down on this one.
The beauty of having friends, perhaps.
Stressed out, I threw t-shirt after t-shirt, dress after dress out of my dresser. As I never went out, I didn't have any pretty clothes and I wasn't even sure what to wear because it wasn't fancy but it wasn't casual. Another reason why I should've always done stuff in my own time or at least when I knew I was ready.
"What do I wear?" I hissed. Diana was sitting on my bed with her feet dangling off of the edge. She grinned and stood up, admiring the heap of laundry in the process that basically made my room a landfill.
"How do you want to look?" She winked. I rolled my eyes.
"I'm being serious... I don't know what to wear!" I threw my hands up in the air angrily and if she didn't get straight to the point soon, I would start tearing my own hair out by the clump. Maybe I'd look like that Cynthia doll from Rugrats or at least a brunette version.
"Wear this," Diana prowled around the room, inspecting all of my clothes like a detective, "And this." I watched as her index finger directed to a long-ish t-shirt and some jean shorts that were probably her’s in a previous life because I didn’t recognize them. She had a habit of leaving her stuff at my place and forgetting that they ever existed.
"It's wet outside?" I questioned. My eyes wandered to the window and the weather was indeed was soggy as it had been earlier. The pavements were 50 shades darker and the sky wasn't a happy blue. That probably described what I felt about this stupid date because it was too sudden.
"Fine, wear a tracksuit." she laughed.
"Great idea. I'll wear a black jacket and grey joggers." I said sarcastically. Tracksuits were bad enough. The only time it was really okay to wear them was for sports... casual wear unless you're a boy wasn't a fab idea. It looked too sloppy, especially if I was supposed to go to the feckin' cinema.
"Fine. Wear leggings then and a hoody." Diana coughed, handing me some different clothes. I smiled, considering that that idea was probably decent. I wondered what he would wear... or if he would even bother to turn up. Not that I'd been stood up previously... because I hadn't.
Once I was dressed and looking decent, I summoned Dirk from the living room. Thankfully, although a bit scruffy looking he was dressed and he raised his eyebrows at me.
"Take me and Diana to the cinema." I ordered. His eyes flicked between the two of us and he sighed because he hated being chauffeur with a passion. That was a strong, burning passion but he loved me too much to reject it.
So, we strolled out of the front door. Diana probably with hearts glued where her irises and pupils were and we got into Dirk's car. Despite him being a young adult, his vehicle was filthy and the ugliest grey possible. It exhausted too many unhealthy fumes too... and I remembered that he mentioned him winning it for free once. Well, it was either that or he found it in the car scrap yard. To be honest, both were legit reasons because it was a total mess.
