THE BOY WHO WOULDN'T GROW UP

When Ced saw Hazel in the morning, she looked dizzy.

" What happened ?" he asked , curiously "You don't look so well. Are you going to be sick ?"

"Why do you care?" Hazel snapped.

"Why are you so irritable, today ?" Ced asked, juggling two apples that he had found on the table in his hands.

" Maybe, because I couldn't get any sleep last night and was woken up at dawn, by the chirping of birds. Maybe, because we kind of had a fight yesterday. Or perhaps, it was something that I had yesterday that is messing with my mind and body." she said.

" Well, I had the same food as you and I don't seem to be having any problem." Ced shrugged.

Hazel's eyes narrowed. "Are you sure? Aren't you unusually cheery this morning ? And what's with the juggling act ? Since when do you juggle?"

He couldn't deny what she had just said. His heart and head felt light, his body empty. He felt like jumping and throwing his hands up in the air. There were no worries, no guilt to weigh him down. It was all very strange, but felt...good, in a way.

When he snapped out of his thoughts, he noticed that Hazel had sluggishly walked away. A pair of similar looking boys came to his table. Were there really two of them? Ced didn't know. Something told him he couldn't trust his senses.

"Why do you look so glum?" one of them asked.

"I feel a bit odd, that's all." Ced said, uneasily, "And confused."

"We know what that feels like." They nodded at each other, "Why do you think we look like each other ? It's so very odd, isn't it? What are we, doppelgangers?"

Ced did not know how to reply. "I think I should get some sleep."

"Noooo. Sleep won't do you any good. We have something that might help." the Twins said.

Ced was hopeful. Maybe it was a draught or a medicinal potion. That would have him up on his feet in no time.

One of the twins opened their hand to reveal a powdered silvery substance in it.

" We call it fairy dust." the Twins said.

Ced knew about fairy dust. "Doesn't it make you hover in the air and fly ?" he asked.

The Twins smirked, exchanging a look. "It sure does." As they mixed it in water, the dust seemed to do small twirls and dance in the liquid.

" Go on, drink it." they urged. Ced took the glass, apprehensively and had a sip.

The concoction showed its effects only after a few minutes had passed.

Ced felt completely weightless. His stomach had dropped below him and his body was an empty chasm. He felt an overwhelming amount of emotions, which oscillated from ecstasy to melancholy. His feet weren't touching the ground anymore. He was up in the air, he realised. Going up, up and upper. He couldn't believe what was happening to him.

By the Four, he was flying!

Hazel hated not knowing what was going on. She hated not being in control of her senses. She simply hated Neverland.

It felt wrong. She felt wrong.

The residents of Peter Pan's den seemed weird. They were always in a daze, in a self-imposed high.

She noticed a boy dancing under a tree, his hands up in the air, moving about in circular motions.

He stopped and looked in her direction. It didn't seem like he was looking at her, as his gaze went right past her. He snapped his finger to grab her attention.
