Author's Note: Based on The Haunter of the Dark, written in 1935. My second favorite story by Lovecraft, and the inspiration for Infinite Spectrum's Haunter of the Dark album.
"I have seen the dark universe yawning
Where the black planets roll without aim
Where they roll in their horror unheeded
Without knowledge or lustre or name"
My name is Robert Harrison Blake
And I have seen that which will make the soul ache
I am an author and artist
Of the fantastic and mysterious and dark
From my lodging in Providence,
I can see a church standing stark
I go to my town map and make a mark
Long abandoned and disused
Perfect for story or painting
My inquisitive side becomes enthused
The next day I'm on my way
I stop to ask about the church
But everyone seems afraid
Some nonsense about long-gone evil
One man consents to tell the tale
Many years ago a cult dwelt within
The Cult of Starry Wisdom, he says
Worshipping the Crawling Chaos in their sin
Until one day a priest, a man of God
Father O'Malley his name
He cast out the cult and their dark presence
Still, it is feared just the same
I heed not his warning and enter
The wind sings as some unholy tenor
At first I am disappointed, but that soon fades
It may look empty, but now we shall see
What lies inside
The first thing to strike my eye
An altar, but something's wrong
Not a crucifix, but an ankh of Egypt
As I walk the room seems to sigh
Next I find the library and its accursed tomes
Countless works of literature and poem
"The Necronomicon
Liber Ivonis
Cultes des Goules
Unaussprechlichen Kulten
De Vermis Mysteriis
