"We just need you to watch them for the summer. Me and my wife are taking a vacation together and we don't want to take the kids."

Just what he needed. Kids at his house wrecking things and making it hard to work. Just how much damage would he have to take care of after the two brats were gone? He should charge his brother. The man was sending him to his death.

"Fine, but if one thing gets broken, one thing, and you owe me money, are we clear?"

"Crystal."

Mathew went inside slamming his door shut. Emma's dad gently gripped her shoulder and bent down to whisper in her ear. Alcohol was on his breath.

"If I have to pay for anything you or your sister break, you will be locked up in that room of yours with no food."

Emma nodded knowing her dad meant what he said. He would starve her for making him pay money so she knew to behave while they were gone. He had done it before. A full day on an empty stomach was no fun.

Lisa was so happy to have them over that she was bouncing in excitement. She didn't stop smiling. She wanted kids but Mathew didn't so when she got the chance to have kids over, she took it. She hugged Emma's parents and led the girls inside. The house was nice inside. All the furniture was leather from the couch to the kitchen chairs and the tables were made of marble. Lisa led them upstairs to a small room at the end of the hall. The bed was a king size bed with a canopy over it. The closet was a small one with a few hangers, but the bathroom connected to the room was big. Emma noticed they would have to share the room with their aunt and uncle.

"We eat breakfast at 7 in the morning and we volunteer at the homeless shelter around noon. Make sure you are downstairs dressed and ready. Mathew doesn't tolerate lateness."

It sounded like they were in school. Don't be late. That will get you detention.

Dinner consisted of broccoli soup, a roll, green beans, and rice. Sweet tea was served in wine glasses and the napkins had holders. Uncle Mathew sat at the head of the table with his hands rested beside his plate. When Lisa finally sat in her seat beside Mathew, they lowered their heads. Mathew said grace then dug into his food like he was starving. He obviously wasn't starving since he had a beer belly and round cheeks. He ate like he was starving though.

Emma ate slowly trying to be careful not to break anything. Her uncle Mathew was more vicious than her dad and she didn't want to test him. Lisa smiled at her and tapped her lips with her napkin.

"Tell me about yourself, Emma. What do you like to do for fun?" Lisa asked in that cheerful voice of hers that Emma loved so much.

Mathew growled in annoyance. "Can you discuss this later? I would like to eat my dinner in peace."

Lisa shook her head. "I want to know. It's not everyday we get to see them."

"For reasons." He growled into his wine glass, but Lisa wasn't listening.

Emma sat her fork down. "I like to play outside."

"That is fun. I have a garden in the backyard. Would you like to see it? I make sure it is well watered."

Mathew rolled his eyes shoving food in his mouth. Emma was afraid to say anything in fear that he would yell at her. She continued eating ignoring the question. When dinner was over, she helped Lisa clean up. Lisa was quiet as they cleaned the table off. Once inside the kitchen, Lisa turned to Emma. Her smile now faded into a frown. "I want kids of my own, but Mathew doesn't. I love having kids around. It's like having my own. I think tomorrow, we should go see my garden. Mathew will be busy in his office."
