Emma made a whole pot of coffeeand in the matter of ten minutes, she had drank three cups. She wasnot going to sleep. She couldn't. If she did, someone was going toget hurt and if she knew how to stop it, she would. Asking anyone forhelp with it, would inform people who she is and the police wouldcome for her. She would have to leave again. She didn't want toleave.
She carried her coffee to theroom with her and sat it on the nightstand. Kevin had given herfurniture he had in his basement since she didn't have the money forany. She was given enough to make the apartment homey. She sat on herbed and opened the Times magazine. She read each page tryingto keep herself awake. Once she finished that cup of coffee, shemoved on to another. She wasn't feeling tired so that was a blessing. She sat the magazine down and looked out her window. She felt solonely. She missed talking with Lisa. Lisa had treated her like adaughter and Emma loved it. She was thankful she made it out alive.
11:30. Emma's eyes got heavy. She quickly made her way back to the kitchen and went to pour herselfsome more coffee when she realized she was out. She didn't have anymore. Would she be able to make it to the store? Once she made it tothe door, she just knew she wouldn't get anywhere. Instead, she tooka long hot shower and tried to stay awake. Once she got out, she feltthe heaviness of her eye lids return. No matter what she did, shewould never be able to fight the sleep that threatened to destroyher. She feared to know who it would be this time.
No longer able to fight it,Emma passed out on the couch.
Wind blew her hair andsomething dragged her through the night. She cried out no and triedto find some way to pull back. There was nothing. It was as if shewas flying. Everything was against her. She saw police everywhere.Hotel Florence. It was a fancy hotel just down the road from thepolice station. Emma didn't know who was inside, but whoever it waswas well protected. She looked down to see herself in her pajamas. She slowly walked towards the hotel, but out of eye shot of thepolice.
She stopped when a cop steppedaround the corner talking on a walkie talkie. He was close enough tosmell the shampoo in her hair, but he didn't show any sign of seeingher. He walked past her as if she wasn't there. Feeling satisfiedwith that, she made her way to the front of the hotel. Right when shestepped in front, she noticed Loyd standing on the balcony lookingdown at all of the police. Emma watched him amazed at how handsome hehad become. He had once been a nerdy kid with big glasses and greasyhair. He was now so handsome and tall.
Emma couldn't stop staring athim. Then, just as she was about to set the place on fire, his eyesmet hers. He saw her. As if knowing what she was about to do, heyelled for his mother. The police heard his yelling and they camerunning. Emma watched as they ran past her pulling Barbie out of thehotel. The others looked around for where Emma might be, but no onesaw her. Loyd didn't stop staring at Emma as she stood there. Emmawatched him curious.
Just then, the hotel caughtfire. People were pulled out screaming and crying. Emma slowly walkedtowards Loyd.
"You can see me." Hestudied her a few minutes then nodded.
She looked at Barbie then Loyd.Barbie looked through her as if she was a ghost, but Loyd could seeher. Something was wrong with that.
"Why can you see me and noone else can?"
She thought he would give hersome lame excuse of being able to talk to ghosts, but his answer waschilling. "We all have an evil side." He gave a faint smile. Emmafelt her anger build. She glared daggers at him and caused the carbeside them to explode. Loyd was knocked off his feet along withBarbie landing on the ground in a thud.
Police ran to them to helpBarbie, but Loyd beat them to it. He pulled her up gently and turnedback to Emma. Emma didn't stop. She used whatever magic she had tothrow him back against the brick wall. Police froze in place shockedat seeing a boy thrown back. Emma walked to him and pinned him there.
