Panicked, Justin quickly removed his hand from my top and stood up in a rush. I gave him the ‘seriously!?’ look and he just shrugged. Reaching out to hold my hands, he pulled me up and held onto my hand protectively. We casually strolled over to the car and Justin opened the door for me. I started to climb in the car when I saw a lock of brown hair in the driver’s seat. The hair moved and a woman turned around. Pattie. Are you freakin’ kidding me! Drama everyday in my life…

Justin was trying to climb in the car after me, oblivious to the fact that this was definitely not a taxi, but I pushed him back out and slammed the door. I moved over to the passenger window and knocked several times, hurting my hand a little bit. Pattie glared at me as she rolled the window down. Just as the window was fully down, Justin placed his hand on my arm and gave both me and his Mum a look to say ‘Don’t say anything you will regret.’ Don’t worry; I don’t plan on arguing again.

“Justin, get in.” Pattie didn’t ask, she ordered. I was expecting him to get in straight away and force me in too, but he just stood there, hands in pockets. It’s not often he disobeys Pattie.

“Justin. Get in the car, now!” but he still stood there. Moments later he said,

“Why?”

“What do you mean, why!?” I could sense the anger in her voice. Justin pushed past me to be next to the window and I stood to the side obediently.

“Why can’t I be with her? What is so bad about her that makes you disapprove of her this much?”

“She’s just…” She tried to finish her sentence but Justin interrupted.

“Can’t you see that I’m the happiest I have been in a long time? Are you seriously willing to hurt me just because you can’t see past your bitchy instincts?”

“Don’t Justin. Just leave it and get in the car.” She didn’t seem angry anymore. It was like she understood what Justin was saying but she is too arrogant to admit defeat.

“Then what!?” Justin said. “Then what are we going to do? Do I get in the car alone? Do you drive off? Do I just leave the love of my life standing here?” I stared at my feet awkwardly; I really didn’t want to see Pattie’s face whilst Justin was saying this. “Am I supposed to just listen to you and then everything will get better? Because it won’t. You need to realise that I don’t care what you say, I willalways be with my girl.” Suddenly, I felt obliged to step in.

“Look Justin, it’s okay. I don’t want to come between you and your Mother anymore. I can’t do this.”

“What are you trying to say?” Justin whimpered as he gripped onto my hand.

“You know I love you right? Yeah. So, I never thought I would say this and trust me, it’s a last resort but you’re going to have to choose.” I paused, trying to force myself to say the unspeakable words.

“Choose what?” Pattie spat. I took Justin’s other hand and looked him right in the eye.

“It’s me or Pattie.” Justin’s lip quivered and his eyes flickered to and from each of my eyes.

“How can I choose!? I love you with all my heart, I truly believe you are my soul mate and I want to be with you forever but Mum… you’ve been with me through so much, you were there when no one else was. You have supported me from the start. How can I even make a decision like that?”

“Let me make it for you.” I stepped towards Justin, put my hands on his cheek, kissed him softly and said quietly,

“I’ll wait on you forever.” Then I kissed him again on the cheek, turned and walked away calmly.
