Cristina drummed her fingers on the dashboard of Thomas's car. She chewed on the inside of her cheek, glancing through the windows of the car with her big brown, eyes filled with annoyance and impatience.
"Are we there ye-t?"
"No."
"Are you sur-e?" Cristina whined. She started gently bumping her head on the headrest of the car. Amy groaned and kicked the back of her friend's seat. "Shut uup!"
Cristina clicked her tongue and rolled her eyes. She glanced over to Mr. Drew sighed heavily and put on his turn signal. He turned right into a Days Inn.
"We'll stay the night here, and go check out the studio tomorrow," Thomas said tiredly. He turned the car off and waited a few minutes before exiting, the two girls following him. He locked the blue Kia Optima as he got up to the door of the inn.
The girls were already talking to the desk lady, asking for two separate rooms.
"Two rooms?" Thomas asked with slight confusion. The look Cristina gave him said it all. "Oh, right." Mr. Drew turned to the forcefully smiling receptionist. "Yeah. They know what they're doing more than I do.." He rubbed the back of his neck and nodded. Cristina continued, talking quickly about room arrangements to the receptionist.
Cristina dangled a pair of keys in from of her nose. Amy rolled her eyes, going up to the designated room, 13, that she and Cristina were sharing. The Portuguese teenager handed Mr. Drew his key for his room, 14, and followed Amy silently. The three of them were extremely tired from the drive. Good night's rest would do them good.
Amy flopped down on the bed, already nice and showered, wearing her pajamas. Cristina was in the shower now, cleaning off the day's sweat of sitting in that car for four and a half hours. They were finally in Bakersfield, California.
It technically wasn't a very long car ride, if you threw in a whining toddler it would've been a much longer drive. But there wasn't any toddler, well... There was Cristina, but she was never good in vehicle rides lasting longer than thirty minutes.
Her mom was more than enthusiastic to let her only daughter go out on an adventure with her friend and family friend several hours away in a small town north of Los Angeles. Well, Cristina had family there in Bakersfield, so if anything were to happen, the girls could go over there and hide out.
Summer had begun a few days ago, at 2:21 on Wednesday afternoon. Most of the students, like Cristina, at St. Martin High School ran out the front doors screaming and hollering, overjoyed that school was finally over. Some of the more well rounded students, including Amy, felt giddy and overjoyed, now that tests and finals were over, but they didn't physically show their excitement like the more "edged" students.
Amy pulled out her phone, inputted her password, then tapped on the messages app. She should text her mom, it was only natural.
'Hey Mama, we're in Bakersfield rn. Stopped at a Days Inn for the night'
She sent the text and waited patiently for her mom's reply, it didn't take as long as one would think. If your daughter was out of town with a friend and her teacher, you'd reply as quickly as you could, would you not?
'thats awesome sweetie! Tell me, wat do you have planned for tom?'
