"Hey, we've been meeting every night like this for months, do you not want to go somewhere else some time?" I asked, squeezing Gatubelas hand which was in mine. We were sat on a low branch of the tree that we had claimed as ours since the day she revealed her name to me. Her head was leaning on my shoulder as she watched the blue waves glistening under the light of the twinkling stars and crescent, dancing in harmony to natures music. She stirred like I had woken her from a trance.
"Don't you want to see me anymore?" Her eyes widened with a look of panic, her eyes were brimming with tears.
"Of course I want to see you, you're the best thing thats ever happened to me," I explained, caressing her cheek gently, "I just meant, do you not want to go somewhere else together?"
"Oh, I thought you meant go somewhere else as in to someone else." She sighed in relief.
"Of course not! So, I can take you for a meal or something?"
"That sounds lovely," She smiled as I did too, "but no I can't."
"Why not?" I asked beginning to worry.
"I just can't." I hopped off the branch, she lost her balance as she lost her person to lean on. She stared at me, the tears brimming again. She was the one pushing me away, how dare she cry!
"What are you hiding from me!?" I asked nearly shouting, I never lost my temper, never, I was the cool collected type, always finding logic in something to keep myself calm, but I was beginning to lose it now. She sat there, frozen, the tears leaving her eyes and making their way down her cheeks.
"N-Nothing." She cried, wiping the tears away from her face. I stood looking at her, analysing her, watching every move she made.
"Your..lieing." I stuttered, frowning as I shook my head. A moment ago I was the happiest man on this Earth, now...now I was lost. Take control. Analyse. I told myself.
"I'm not!"
"You're clearly a good lier, but..you find it hard to lie to those you love..I suppose that's a compliment to me..." I began, looking her in the eyes.
"Don't you dare," She choked, "Don't you dare stand there doing that thing you do, analysing me till you find out what you want to know, what you think you need to know." I smirked,
"So there is something to find out."
"NO, THERE'S NOTHING!" She stood on the branch, throwing her arms against her side as she shouted at me to emphasise her anger.
"You know, I don't really know much about you, well that's a lie, I do know a lot about you, but there are huge chunks of your life I'm missing." She glared at me, a look that would warn anybody to shut up, but not me, never was one for taking orders. "You're lieing to me when you say you aren't hiding soemthing. Your eyes, your eyebrows, your face was distressed for a moment when I accused you, it was only for a second. Most people wouldn't have noticed, but I'm not most people am I. You were worried for a brief moment but then you re-gained control, you composed yourself and started playing out this act of pretending you are so used too. You're also using a lot of repition, was that supposed to be too obvious for me to notice. Just because you repeat words doesn't make them any more believable, it just sounds like your aim is to convince me and perhaps yourself, while you're at it, that there is nothing I need to know. I would also say you have got very defensive, but you would only reply with a smart comment about the fact I am analysing you like you are a case. Do I need to go on, because I could with ease."
"No. I'm innocent." She leant against the tree, still keeping her guard up but admitting little defeat.
"I know."
"Please, just drop it." She pleaded, strands of hair falling in front of her face as she looked up at me, with almost puppy dog eyes.
"Come out with me then, you're my first proper girlfriend. I'm a socially-unsociable, clever arse who doesn't normally have time or care about these fluffy feelings of love. So please celebrate it with me?"
"There will be someone better out there for you, someone you can share everything with and someone who will share it with you back. I'm-I'm just a mysterious freak."
"There is nobody I'd rather have in my life than you, you mean everything to me. I mean you are the first person who has ever distracted me from my work and I don't care. Because my work can wait, while you're here stood by my side, the search is over."
"The search for who?"
"It doesn't matter, just some girl." I sighed, she glared at me repulsed by my words, "No, it's not like that! It was just work, there's nothing in it for me, nothing there! It was just something to pass the time, I found a case that I could solve so I began to. I didnt - don't know who she is!"
"You either see me as arranged or not at all." She jumped off the branch and ran into the trees bordering the beach, her long hair flowing behind her. My jaw fell open, I watched as she ran, should I run after her? No probably not, I wouldn't catch up to her now anyway..but still what am I supposed to do...
"Should I follow you?!" I shouted, I'm no good at this kind of thing, I know everything about people, but I know nothing about girls. Silence was my only reply, so I turned around and made my way home, kicking stones as I went.
