It had been two years since you last saw Haise. But this time, you two kept in touch with letters until 5 months ago. Every month he would send you a letter on how he was doing and you gave him a reply. But you had a feeling that there was more going on than what he said in his letters.
Today, you decided to visit Wanderlust Cafe to relive old memories. You entered and the fresh baked goods and bitter coffee smell made you smile. "Welcome back boss." An employee said to you. You had heard that the previous owners passed away and decided to buy the building with your savings a year ago.
"Thank you!" You replied to an employee. You ordered a croissant and a mocha latte and sat down at the table where you and Haise first officially introduced each other. You smiled softly at the memory.
"May I sit here?" A man with all white hair and a kind face asked. You glanced up and choked on the croissant you had bitten into. He panicked and patted your back. Once you finally calmed down he gave you a glass of water. You frowned. Something like this has happened before.
The man sat across from you with a cup of coffee. You looked at the man and tears were running down your face.
"Haise?" You whispered.
The man scratched the back of his head. "Not quite, but I was Haise for awhile." You held a hand to your mouth in shock.
It was him but not quite him. The kind smiling man you loved.
"I'm kaneki. Kaneki ken, it's nice to meet you again y/n."
You had to excuse yourself for a moment and go to the restroom. You tried to stop yourself from crying. But it wouldn't. Finally 5 minutes later, you walked back out and saw that Haise... no kaneki was waiting for you.
"I'm sorry about that." You told him.
He waved his hand back and forth. "I don't mind, I imagine it's a really emotional meeting for you. You know, Haise was in love with you."
"I... I loved him too." you whispered.
"I know." Kaneki replied. "Thank you for everything that you did for me.. us." Haise actually finally accepted me a year ago. But I kept with the habit of writing you and.." he paused. "I think I fell in love with you too." He looked up with a soft smile.
You were shocked.
"I would like to get to know you again, if that's okay." Kaneki asked.
"Of course." You smiled in response
He wasn't Haise but he was still the sweet kind smiling man you loved.
