Odell...

"Hurry up Beckham, you only have a little while". The guard reminded me as i sat down for my now fifth jail visit. I ignored my baby mother's constant stank ass attitude. I picked up the phone. "Can i just speak to my daughter please". I asked, not wanting to hear her remind me that i wasn't shit today. She rolled her eyes, handing the phone to Skye, who was excited to see me. "Hey Baby, how you been? Daddy miss you". I grinned, watching her smile. "I made new friends at school today, they say they liked my hair, my shoes and clothes and stuff. I told them that you were my daddy and they think I'm telling a story, and for-". I listened to her speak and tell me about her day. I missed her so much. I wish it was just me and her again. But i have no one to blame but myself. My own damn self. I wish i never touched the blunt that Kareem gave me.

Fuck, why the hell did i have to be so stupid? And now i'm sitting, awaiting trial with my drug dealing ass friend. Every night I pray to God that they let me free. I'll pay the fine, I just need to make it back home to Skye. "Beckham". The security guard ran through my thoughts. "I love you daddy". Skye spoke. "I love you too Skye, I'm coming home soon". Her mother took the phone before she could hang it up. "I've been taking her to that Modeling thing. Her photos came out nice". Melanie showed me Skye's portfolio so far. The pictures were stunning. "Tell Skye that i think her pictures are beautiful". Melanie told her, she cracked a smile but i could sense something wrong by the look in her eyes.

Maybe she wished i was there, she missed me. But i can't do anything but sit in her and tell her ill be home soon.

"Skye are you okay?". I stated in a low whisper. "I'm okay, Daddy". She reassured, cracking a small smile. I kissed my fingers and touched the glass and waited until she mimicked me.

Shortly after, the guards began walking me back to my private cell. "Your Trial starts tomorrow, Beckham". The guard added before twisting the key into the lock. "You think they going to let me free?". "Drug possession can be up to eight years". She confirmed shaking her head doubtfully. "But do you think that I can get through this case? Regardless  of the penalty". "If you have a good Attorney, you might be able to. Usually people take this like a man, your an anxious one". The masculine woman explained. "So I'm not a man because I don't want to be in prison?". She scoffed. "Didn't say that". "Yeah, whatever".  I shrugged it off.

-----------

"Beckham, get up". I awoke, washed up and was instantly transported to the federal courthouse. My heart
thumped a thousand times each second, walking into the wintry courtroom. I spotted Kareem, like me, in his orange jumpsuit awaiting the trail. Our attorney was getting her papers together, and the judge haven't came out yet. "Man I'm sorry for getting you in this shit..". Kareem finally apologized. I kept peering at the ground, wondering what the hell I was to do if I didn't get through this consequence. "Kareem, if this shit don't pull through, Im whooping your ass". I warned. He possessed a grim look and then quickly turned away.

"All rise".

The courtroom and the jury rose as the judge entered, the others going by oath and then the case finally started. My heart pounded. "Your honor, state calls Kareem Taylor, to the stand". I glanced at him as he entered the stand, hoping he didn't say anything stupid.

"Now Kareem, you are in fact a drug dealer correct?". My heart dropped.
Then, a juror stood up blantly and spoke. "Objection your honor, lack of Foundation".

I finally got my breath back.

The attorney took some time to regroup. "On exactly October fifth, the day you got arrested. What exactly happened that day?". Kareem took a breath before he spoke. "I woke up that morning, ate breakfast then hit the gym. I ran on the treadmill a couple of times, lift some weights, and by the time I was finished it was the afternoon. I was off of work that day so I had spare time. My homeboys hit me up to play some basketball at Bassick Park, so I was down for it. I went and balled out for a couple of hours. Then, I hit up Odell. And that's when I went over his his house to chill". "Now what exactly is your occupation Kareem?". "I'm... I don't really have one, sir". I was relieved at Kareem's response. "You said you were off of work that day, what do you do for work Kareem?". "I don't exactly work sir". "You said and I quote 'I was off of work that day', and you Kareem swore by oath to state the truth and nothing but the truth. You will not lie in this courtroom. What exactly do you do for work?". Kareem hesitated. Then the attorney instantly began talking again. "You know what, as a matter of fact what exactly did you do when you went to Odell's home?". "We played the game for a few, we ate and we talked". "So what exactly got you two arrested?". "We smoked Marijuana, sir". "Is this the first time you smoked Marijuana with your friend Odell?". Kareem stayed silent, scared. "Answer, Kareem". He finally pushed out an answer. "No, this isn't the first time". "As you can see your this was no mistake, being that this was regular ordeal between these two. No further questions your honor".

I wanted to punch Kareem for letting them prove that we don't care.

***

After proving that Me and Kareem were careless and that we should be thrown into jail with a felony, there was a recess so that the judge could discuss the case. "Man I hope we make it out". I glanced at the door darkly. "We better make it out man, but because of yo ass this shit is looking real slow".
