"We've been at this for hours!" Rosa whined. "Let's go home already!"
"You're the one who wanted to help out with the case," Latrelle grumbled. On the outside, he acted indifferent, but inside he was laughing at her disappointment. Not what you thought it was, right?
"Guys, let's go," Kevin said. Latrelle was about to protest when he saw the look on Kevin's face. He quickly grabbed Rosa's arm and dragged her out of the house and into his truck.
"What was that about, Relle?" she asked as they sped down the street at break-neck pace. Latrelle didn't answer as he focused on getting to the precinct as quickly as possible.

Kevin threw the notebook on his father's desk. Harold looked at him questioningly before picking it up. He went right to the page Kevin had marked and stared, dumbfounded at what he saw.
"You're saying Kyle Martin was the killer?" he asked.
"No, only that it's possible. Richard found out some things about him that would've gotten Kyle demoted from hero to traitor," Kevin answered his father. Harold sighed.
"Look, I'll be the first to admit that it's a definite possibility, but we can't go off just a few journal excerpts," Harold said, rubbing the back of his neck. But the look of certainty didn't dissipate from his son's eyes. He's just like his mother, he thought, smiling.
"Fine. We'll look into it."

Kyle hid behind the door, listening to the conversation between Harold and his son. He'd heard his name right as he was about to leave the building and his curiousity got the better of him, and he decided to listen in.
"You're saying Kyle Martin was the killer?" Harold asked.
"No, only that it's possible Richard found out some things about him that would've gotten Kyle demoted from hero to traitor," Kevin replied. Kyle, unable to hear the rest of the conversation, ran down the stairs.
I can't let those kids tell everyone what I did, he thought as he devised a way to scare a bunch of kids into quitting.
