"Did you read all the files, Latrelle?" Kevin asked over the phone.

"Yeah. I even compiled a file of my own that shows what's relevant or not, if you want to read it," Latrelle said sarcastically. He could hear Kevin's dad's laughter over the line and knew he was on speaker. "Got anything else for me to do?"

"Yeah, actually. If you can come over, we can show you," Harold (Kevin's dad) said. Although his voice was slightly muffled, Latrelle still heard him clearly. "Oh, and bring your computer with the file you made."

Once again, he was amazed at what Latrelle could do, when he put his mind to it. Harold had only read the first few pages of the document his son's friend had made, and already he could see things a lot clearer than when he had gotten the case.

After serving in the military for seven years, Richard went to work for a large corporation that aided in advancing surveillance technology. This technology would ultimately be used in the military, although some projects would be used by the government directly.

Harold closed the laptop and mulled over what he'd just read. He looked at Latrelle, who had regained his laptop and was talking the case with Kevin.

He's smart. Smarter than most his age, Harold said to himself. He'd be a good detective.

"So, here's what I thought," Harold began, and Latrelle perked up. "I've read the files myself over and over, and, while you picked up on things I missed, you missed some of the more important things."

Latrelle nodded. Mr. Friar's harsh, but his feedback was more valuable than any teachers. He went back through the files and checked for the things he missed before adding them to the document. Harold watched as Latrelle worked with enviable tenacity. Most of the detectives at the precinct don't even work as hard as a seventeen-year-old.

Mitchell shredded the papers from his brother's office.

They can't find these. It'll be pernicious if they do.
