Tobias

Just when I thought it might be too late, Christina came running up to me with a smile so big it filled her face.

"It's her-she's awake!" Christina exclaimed breathlessly. I took off running at a full sprint toward the hospital wing. As I neared, I slowed down my pace, but not by much.

"Where is she?" I asked the nearest doctor in sight. He pointed down the hallway her room was in and told me that I could find her there, waiting for me. I slowed my pace down to a walk and looked in the window to find Tris sitting there, jiggling her knee impatiently.

I walked in to the room and she ran over to me and kissed me, slowly but passionately. I leaned in to deepen the kiss and I could smell the sweat on her body, and the cinnamon scent that I have come to associate her with. She ran her fingers up my shirt while I grasped the loops in her jeans and pulled her closer, as if she couldn't be close enough. She pulled away with smile lighting up her face.

"Tobias, you're here, how'd it go back in the city?" she asked, with curiosity taking over.

"Of course I'm here. And Evelyn promised that she would let the crusade go and she and Johanna agreed on terms. The Allegiant agreed on the condition that my mother has to leave the city and never return."

"I'm so sorry."

"What do you have to be sorry for? You haven't done anything."

"No, I did. I'm sorry for being so jealous about Nita. I should have known there was nothing going on between you two. I'm sorry for trying to control you and your choices, even though I know you're best when you're the leader and not being controlled. I'm sorry for going instead of Caleb, but you kept me alive he entire time. I thought of you when the life was draining out of me and my limbs felt so heavy I couldn't move. I thought of you, Tobias, when I was hooked up to all the infernal machines, helping me to recover. I knew I had to get better for you."

I was rendered speechless for one of the first times. When I found my tongue, the words seemed to come easily, "I love you to the moon and back Tris."

Her words came easily too, "I love you too."
