A promise is meant to be kept.
Most of them are broken.
This was one that would last forever.
Two months had passed since Lilac had finally turned eighteen.
The hours swept past like dust particles -- so miniscule and unnoticeable. After her release from the hospital, Lilac's parents allowed her to drop out of school. Even though they seemed to care about her happiness, work still came first... Still, she didn't mind.
Day faded into day. Moments passed without hesitation.
Yet not a single second was wasted.
Elizabeth bid farewell to her ex once the bell for the last day of school had rung. Both she and Alexander agreed that things were best cut off properly rather than left hanging, so the relationship ended on good terms. The girl would now be off to enlist in the Navy while Alexander had put off all he had planned for a certain short blonde.
Now, it was mid-October. With dollars from her childhood piggy banks (and mainly from her parent's willing bank accounts -- they had lent the money yet had no time), Lilac and Alexander were able to purchase October flight and show tickets for a trip to Cleveland, Ohio.
Even after all the suggestions -- New Zealand to visit the place they filmed the Lord of the rings; Yellowstone National Park to go and see the various landscapes of rolling hills and bubbling springs; Great Britain for tours of the sets they used in Doctor Who as well as a few fandom conventions; Anime Expo back in Los Angeles; Orlando, Florida for Disney World and Universal Studios -- Cleveland, Ohio was what Lilac stuck to no matter what.
That, after all, is where the US national tour of Waitress would begin.
It took a lot of patience to finally find tickets, and it took a lot of late nights of calculating budgets. Alongside packing, Alexander had to make sure that Lilac had enough medication to last the week they would be staying in Cleveland. Due to his mother's tight schedule, they'd have to go alone, but they trusted each other enough to be comfortable.
Half the flight was spent with Lilac snacking on chocolate. By this time, Alexander let her gorge on whatever she wanted. Hey -- it's not like diabetes would affect her. The other half was her taking a nap and Alexander having to make sure her mouth was closed. As of now, she was asleep, leaning onto his chest with her eyes shut close. Good thing the turbulence they met every now and then kept her sleeping light enough to not snore loudly and disturb the other passengers. Noticing that Lilac was starting to lean forward, Alexander moved his arm slowly and wrapped it around her shoulders out of instinct to keep her from falling .He knew the thought was cheesy, but... she looked too precious for the world.
He couldn't help but crack a smile.
"Alec...? Why are you looking at me weirdly?"
Lilac's quiet voice snapped him out of his trance. Oh, boy. He must have been looking at her for quite a long time, and lost in thought, he hadn't an idea that she had awakened.
