After letting her cry over her mother’s dead body, Humiya and Aimi took Katsumi away letting Eiji slice his knife into her mother’s brain denying her of turning into a Tango. They dug her grave in the backyard of her home and buried her there.

“I’m sorry for your loss.” Kyoko softly said.

Katsumi sniffled and wiped her tears away and let everyone clean up and stay at her place for the night. The night was cold and dark and for the first time in a while, it felt lonely and scary. The streets of Tokyo had gone into complete chaos.
There was hardly anyone left alive. The house was in the outskirts of the city with a window view of the city lights. Unlike usual, the city was smoke and flames tonight.

Mitsu was asleep on the couch with a blanket over himself. Kyoko, Aimi and Humiya sat together on the floor near the little round dining table. Jae-Sun was taking a shower, Takeo, Takumi and Sugai were sitting on the front porch, looking at the Porsche and the battered bus and Eiji was looking out the window at the dark clouds of smoke flying into the sky from Tokyo.

“My mom and I used to sit here and look at the light when we couldn’t sleep. Tokyo is so pretty. At least it used to be. She would tell me stories about her life until I fell asleep.” Katsumi said, walking towards him from behind.

“I’m sorry for your loss.” Eiji answered awkwardly.

She shook her head with a forced smile. “Everyone has their time. I don’t think the world will get better anytime soon. It’s better that she’s at peace now rather than see this place burn more.”

“What makes you think the world won’t get better?”

“The world was never a good place. People just hid the disgusting truth with pretty lights and technology. The world had been dead for a long time. We study history and all we study are wars, wars and more wars. This is the apocalypse. This is what we deserve.”

“They’ll make it all better in no time. But for now we got to go to Seoul. Jae-Sun lost contact with his mother. We need to get to her first.”

“Why are you so calm? If Tokyo is gone. Do you think anywhere else is any different?”

“Yeah! I have hope.” Eiji smiled.

“Not for long.” Katsumi answered.

“So sour.” Eiji chuckled. “You should come with us.” He added.

“On a suicide mission? Sure. I don’t have anywhere else to go to anyway.”

“I thought you would reject me for sure. How about the rest of your family? Or friends?”

“None!” she smiled.

“Sorry!”

Jae-Sun soon came out wearing his white shirt and jeans while drying his hair with a towel. A stain of blood was on his shirt at the place of his stab wound.

“Hey! Your wound, did it open up again?” Aimi asked.

“Ah! Yeah, seems like it.” Jae-Sun answered, forcing a chuckle.

After that, Humiya and her, treated his wound using Katsumi’s first aid kit when a loud noise was heard from above. Helicopters. And quite a few of them too, flew from above the house towards the city.

“Rescue Squads I bet!” Eiji said, smiling.

“Yeah! That means there are other Survivors. We’re gonna be saved.” Mr. Sugai said, walking in along with Takeo and Takumi.

“I guess you were wrong after all, Katsumi!” Eiji smiled.

“This doesn’t prove any better. For all we know all the other places will be taken over soon too.”
