Lake mermaids, sometimes known as Freshwater mermaids, live in freshwater, are built for camouflage, and sometimes live partially on land.

These mermaids live in freshwater. They can live almost anywhere on the planet, but generally stay in more temperate regions. Freshwater is naturally occurring water on the Earth's surface and has little or no salt. 2.5–2.75% of the water on our planet is freshwater. Freshwater can be found in swamps, ponds, lakes, rivers or creeks.

Lake mermaids are built so they can camouflage in their environment. They can have webbed hands, and they look "seaweed-ish". They have darker hair, skin sometimes tinted green or brown, and have murky colored tails. Depending on their environment, some Freshwater mers have sharper teeth or claws to catch their prey. Like the Deep-Sea mermaid, many Lake mers have a tail with countershading. Some tail colors of lake mers are green, brown, tan or silver. Some mermaids even have spotted tails.

Lake mermaids have the option of being herbivores, omnivores or carnivores. Most Lake mers though, are carnivores. Lake mermaids usually have quite the abundance of food! They have a variety of edible aquatic plants, such as watercress, bullrushes, water pepper, kelp, lilies, water spinach, even cattails! Freshwater mers also have access to a variety of fish. Some common ones to eat are carp, catfish, trout or salmon! In human form, Lake mermaids enjoy any type of seafood, like sushi, and aquatic plants, like watercress salads!
