Chris POV

The smell of freshly baked lasagna invaded my house with its pleasantness.

The house was filled with my mom ordering everyone separate tasks. Poor Willam got dragged into it too, but he wouldn't miss the dinner as Noora said she'd come as his date and let everyone know about them. I rolled my eyes, finally.

It was the annual Schistad neighborhood dinner. My mom holds it for some weird reason I don't even know. The doorbell rang interrupting the havoc vibe. My lazy ass was waiting for someone to get the door until... "CHRIS YOU BETTER WISH I WASN'T BUSY RIGHT NOW!"

My moms voice made me race to the door at a unimaginable speed. It took me 3 seconds to compose my breathlessness before I opened the door.

Holy shit. Fuck. I literally cannot.

A replica of a goddess stood in front of me. She was wearing a sleeveless figure hugging red dress that reached the floor. It had a slit on the side revealing a single tanned leg that made the little me stand up. Her cleavage wasn't helping the situation any further. My staring was interrupted by Eva clearing her throat.

"Your staring is pretty obvious you know?" she smirked.

"I can't help it Mohn, you look so fucking hot." I stated, mirroring her smirk.

She averted her gaze and mumbled something along the lines 'yeah you too'. Chuckling I stepped to my left and invited her in.

Eva POV

A sense of nostalgia bitch slapped me as my feet made its way through the Schistads house. Haven't been here since Chris and I last fought, and I definitely never thought I'd land up here ever again since that day.

Before I even got a chance to take in the feeling of being in my second home, a loud high-pitched scream from the top of the stairs caused me to wince and look up.

Standing there at the top was Rylee Schistad, Chris' 7-year-old younger sister staring at me with the biggest grin I had EVER seen. She ran down the stairs almost tripping on her way as her eccentricity was unmissed by everyone downstairs. Coming up to me her hands enveloped my waist as that's how tiny she was. My cheeks hurt from smiling as I hugged her back.

Oh, how I missed you Riles.

I got down to her height, which was practically on my knees. "Eva! I missed you so so much!!! Ever since Chris was a meanie, you never come to my house!" she spoke with the cutest pout. "I know Riles... and I'm truly sorry about that, I promise I'll try to meet you more okay?" I expressed softly.

She stuck out her pinky finger. "Pinky promise?" I imitated her hand as our pinkies intertwined. "Pinky promise."

------------------------------------------

The dinner was to die for, literally, Helen almost killed me due to the fact that I didn't say hello to her as soon as I entered. I couldn't stop gorging on her famous lasagna.

The entire meal I would catch Chris staring at me here and there. What was that all about?

Ignoring that I chose to concentrate on the more important aspect here... Noora was invited? Its not bad, trust me, I'm over the moon that she's here as I'm definitely more at ease but since when did Chris and Noora talk? Maybe he called her cause I was coming? Yes! That makes sense... but... why wouldn't she tell me that she was invited AND going?

She knows that I hate him - kinda - so-

'GOD Eva stop overthinking everything, she's your best friend and she would never do anything shady. Just enjoy the dinner and ask her about it later.' My subconscious voice can be so wise at times. Shaking my head I came back to the conversation at hand. It was about Chris telling my  parents what he wanted to do after senior year, law.

I couldn't help but remember when he would tell me how hard he was going to work to get into Stanford. Pursue this career and help people. "And Eva? What do you want to do?" asked Helen.

Chris chimed in before I even opened my mouth, "Marine biology... right?" His eyes met mine as he said the last word, and my heart skipped a beat. Noora's face was clearly filled with confusion as to why he knew that. She knew that our parents were good friends but I never told her about Chris and I's history.

Averting my gaze, I looked towards Helen and said, "Yeah marine biology, not sure about which college yet though."

A ping sound came from my phone as it lit up. There was a text message from Noora that read, "wow... chris... weirdo much haha".

In the mood for some fresh air, I stepped out to the backyard to find Noora and William in what seemed like a very serious conversation. Not wanting it to end I chose not to interrupt, yes I know I'm eavesdropping but I was curious okay!!

"Just please let me tell Eva first." sighed Noora. Tell me what? "Really Noora, another fucking way to prolong it? Honestly like I should applaud you for coming up with a new reason every single time," he said in annoyance. I was gonna step in when, "I'll tell her now, okay? Once she knows you can tell everyone at dessert, sounds good?" She grabbed his face and smiled, "I love you, you do know that right?" He rolled his eyes and replied with a smile on his face, "No actually I don't... can you explain it to me in a more physical way?" Their faces leaned in as I ran back in not being able to believe what I just saw.

What the fuck just happened?
