A Different Childhood (James Potter is alive fic)

James strolled down the street to his daughters school gate; thinking about what had changed in the years he had been in America. He was heart broken to think that he had left his two best friends, Sirius and Remus, thinking that He, Harry and the twins were dead.

As he arrived he saw his daughter's best friend's Dad, John Waters, in the playground.

John Walters was a British businessman who had made it famous here in New York. He also, ironically, was married to a witch and her daughter was also a witch. This was one reason Lily and Charlene were friends. Furthermore James was a good friend to John's wife, Helena Walters neé Marley as she was a pure blood and was the next door neighbor to him. This is
why it wasn't unusual to see Charlene at their house.

"Hey," said James as he stood beside John.

"Hello," he replied. "I have some interesting news from England that you may like to know"

"Really what is it?" Asked James curiously, he didn't keep track of the news from England.

"A high security prisoner has been found innocent and the real criminal has been locked up." John told James.

"Interesting, might I ask who is this prisoner?"
Asked James his curiosity peaking.

"A name you might of heard before," said John offhandedly, smirking at his good friend's face.

"Come on mate! Who?" James cried impatiently.

"Sirius Black,"

James was shell shocked. Sirius? He was going to ask what he was going on when the conversation was interrupted by two 8 year old girls running to fathers.

One girl had flaming red hair that had a long French plat running through her hair. The girl had light tanned skin and freckles on the tops of her cheeks. But the stand out feature was her stunning emerald green eyes that shone with intelligence, mischief and delight at seeing her father that she loved dearly. The girl had on a blue and white vertical striped dress and a navy blue blazer that was trimmed with light blue and her school crest lay on the top left hand side her Purple blue form captain badge stood proudly next to it.

The over girl had medium length dark red hair, auburn if you like, that was in a high pony tail. She had an olive tan and no freckles. She had stunning deep blue eyes that shone with sheer happiness and playfulness that you would expect a 8 year old to have. She wore the same clothes as her best friend but instead of a purple blue Form Captain badge she wore a purple school council badge.

"Daddy!" Squealed the Green eyed girl in delight was she tackled James with a hug who caught her just in time.

"Hey Lily Flower! How has your day been today?" James asked all worries of his former best mate gone when he saw his daughter.

"Good Daddy, we didn't do much because we're breaking up soon but we did get reports," she said sad by the fact they weren't doing much work but her face lit up when she said reports. "We're also going to find out what speech day prize we are going to get this year."

Last year Lily had got the English cup and a Humanities prize.

"That's good tiger, can't wait to open your report to see how many classes you've failed." James teased.

"Daddy!" Lily exclaimed glaring at her Dad.

"Come on Lil we need to get the boys!" James told his daughter.

"Okay! Bye Charlie. Bye Mr Walters," laughed Lily as her Dad took hold of her hand and started running.

People were looking at them and smiling at how close the father and daughter were.
