Ali POV-

The days slowly ticked by, nothing happening.

Near would try to talk to me, but was cut off by some other pressing matters. They wouldn't tell me what the other matters, only that they had to do with a girl named Kira. At least I think it was a girl. It was a pretty girl name.

I spent my days playing solitaire and watching Judge Judy, the only slightly interesting daytime TV show.

Mello never called again. Maybe he was busy. Althoughh,I guess he wouldn't anyways. He is the one who arranged for me to leave.

Sometimes I wonder about Matt and what he was up to. Probably playing video games all day long. I remembered how I acted after he had kissed me. God, I acted like such an idiot!

It kind of eased my boredom though, thinking about Matt and Mello.

I also thought about my parents and older brother. I thought about my life before this whole fiasco. I didn't really miss my old life (which made me feel terrible). At times I wish I could talk to my friends and family again.

"Are you alright?" Near's voice took me out of my thoughts.

I nodded.

"Good," he said as emotionless as ever. I sighed. Always so emotionless.

"I can send Giovanni in to keep you company," he offered.

I shook my head. Whenever Giovanni would come, we most likely played cards and he would win every single damn game. Screw luck. He would ALWAYS win.

I fell back onto my bed and rested my hands behind my head. It was weird; living here felt normal now. (AN: I USED A SEMICOLON!) It was always the same routine. Get up, shower, eat, solitaire, eat, Judge Judy, eat, then finally sleep.

"I can let you come out here," Near offered.

I sat up. "Really?" I asked.

"Yes. Seeing as it's been ten days, I think you're rather safe," he explained.

"Yay! Finally something not boring!" I jumped up into the air like the kids in High School Musical, so I probably looked very stupid.

"I will send Giovanni to collect you."

"Yay!" I ran to the door and waited patiently. Giovanni came and it took me to the main control room. This is the part where the audience oohs and ahhs. Uh, maybe not.

Near was sitting on the floor, stacking dice. I kind of wanted to kick the structure down, but seeing as he let me out of my prison room, I wouldn't.

"Hello," he said.

"Uh... Hi and thanks for letting me come out of my room." I silently changed room to prison in my head.

"You're welcome."

I sat down awkwardly next to him. "So what do you do here all day?" I asked.

"Think."

"Oh...fun."

Near nodded and rolled over a chair. He got on it and continued to stack dice. "You can play with my robots," he offered.

I looked over at the pile of robots stacked up in the corner. "No thanks, I'll just watch," I said. This isn't much better, I thought. At least I'm around people, though.

A half a hour passed and nothing happened. "So who is this Kira person?" I finally asked.

Near somewhat paused, then continued to stack dice. "Kira is a murderer," he said. "He kills criminals."

"Oh, so it's a guy," I said.

"Ninety percent chance," he said.

"Why is it so bad if he is just killing criminals then?" I asked.

"Those criminals didn't deserve to die. They had not done crimes punishable by death. Kira passes his own, twisted judgement on whether they live or not," Near said. I swear I could hear hatred in his voice. Actual emotions-hatred.

"Oh." I twisted my hands around feeling foolish for asking such a question. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Giovanni look over. Near kept stacking dice, not realizing the impact of his words or not caring.

The day went on, Near getting updates on criminals Kira had killed. It was kind of amazing how many criminals died in that day. Not good amazing though.

"Near, how many criminals has Kira killed so far?" I asked the boy.

"Millions," he answered.

"Oh my-"

"Yes," he said cutting me off. I sighed in annoyance.

I glanced around the room for almost the fiftieth time. Nothing changed. People were strewn around the room, working in front of laptops. "How many people work here?" I asked.

"Nineteen," Near replied. He finished his structure and sat back before kicking it down.

I stared at him in shock. "Why'd you do that?" I asked.

"I was finished," he said blankly.

I sighed as Near began building again. This kid could not go five minutes without annoying me.

It was only when I got back to my room that I realized Near hadn't glanced at me once.

I wanted to go back to the main room again by I also wanted to get out of here.

What would I say to my family when I got back? Hi again. Sorry I was gone so long. A sheepboy and chocolate whore kidnapped me and evil men are after me. Yeah. That would go over great.

I sighed, flopping on my bed, and turning out the lights.

"Good night," Near said.

"Night," I muttered before falling asleep.

When I woke up, everything was white. "What the-?" I started.

"Don't speak," Near said.

"Where am I?" I asked, ignoring Near's request.

"Don't speak. I'll explain everything," he said.

"Then explain," I demanded, ignoring him once again. I figured out I was in a bright white room with a light shining in my face.

"You stopped breathing overnight. We had to shock you to get you breathing again," Near explained.

"But I felt fine before," I said, perplexed. "I guess it would explain my dream though."

"What dream?" he asked.

"Just like any other out of body experience, except you all had numbers and names over your heads. Yours was something like Na-" Near slammed his hand over my mouth before I could continue.

"Don't say my name," he said taking his hand away. Actually kind of growled.

My eyes widened. "Okay. Sorry," I apologized.

Near waved a hand. "Continue," he said.

"That's pretty much it. Except you also looked worried. Hm? Were you worried about me Near?" I asked cockily.

Near's cheeks darkened as he shook his head.

"Good," I said. "I'm hungry!"
