It was a rainy day at camp. Probably one of the worst storms you've every had. You looked out of your plain window and admired each drop of water that fell onto the wooden-framed glass. Oh, how you loved it. The smell of the air before it arrived, the sound as it hit the ground and any object underneath it. You loved the rain.
Your friends found you crazy to love such harsh weather. Except for one.
Jean Kirschtein.
You and Jean have ben friends for as long as you could remember. He was the only person you wanted when times were tough, and the only person you needed when things were great. You had a bit of a crush on him, but only because of the way he acted and treated you. As other guys came and went in your life, Jean was always there to comfort you through the heart break.
You continued to watch the rain pour outside, your ears hearing a faint growl. Was it a wild animal? No; it was thunder. And, as everyone knows, thunder's best friend is lightning.
ZIP!
A streak of lightning screeched across the sky.
BOOM! BOOM!
The noise and sight was as if the thunder and lightning were playing tag; one trying to catch the other. Rainy days were truly your favorite.
A few hours had gone by and you continued to sit there alone in your cabin. Until your door flew open. A cadet you did not know the name of had barged in.
"__________, quick! We need your help!"
You looked over at the unknown body in question.
"It's Jean. We can't seem to find him and we've been looking around camp for hours. He doesn't seem to be anywhere and nobody knows where he ran off to."
Your eyes had widened a bit, worried that your friend was caught up in the storm. But then you remembered a secret Jean told you when you were both young. It brought a small smile to your face.
"I know where he is...", you replied.
You got up from your seat, grabbed a blanket and a pair of earmuffs, and headed out.
--------------------+++++++------------------------
You walked up to Jean's cabinet, letting yourself in without knocking first. You scanned the room with your eyes, noticing a larger, wooden wardrobe in the back corner. You walked over to it, opening it up slowly and finding a terrified Jean in the corner with his hands over his ears. You stepped inside and closed the doors behind you.
You took the blanket and wrapped it around your shaking friend, making sure he was nice and warm. He looked up at you with tears in his eyes.
"__-________?"
You gave him a sweet smile, but didn't say a word. You leaned over and uncovered his ears to put the noise-canceling earmuffs on his head, so all he heard was silence. Though, you couldn't do anything about the lightning, it didn't scare him as much as the sound of thunder.
You sat next to him, that same comforting smile on your face. Jean looked over at you, his own dorky smile starting to grow on his face. He pulled you into him and hugged you tightly .
"Don't leave...okay...?"
He whispered into your ear. His body had stopped shaking now and he didn't seem too scared anymore. You hugged your friend back, burying your face into his shirt.
"Wouldn't dream of it".
