"baby, thank god" He began to shed a few tears
"I'm sorry, who are you?" I asked
His face dropped as he stared straight at me. I could tell that wasn't the response he was looking for.
"I'm kidding" I said bursting into laughter
"Adonis, don't play like that. I really thought you lost your memory or was mad at me. This isn't a time to be playing" He said getting all serious
"I lost the ability to walk not play around. plus I don't want to think about it." I said looking down at my bandaged legs
"Dom said he'll stop by tomorrow, oh and these are for you" He said handing me the sunflowers he held
"aww, you didn't have to." I said while smelling the flowers
"so...how does it feel?"
"weird. my back hurts a lot but that's because of the surgery. other than that my legs feel kind of numb, I feel them but I can't move them" I said explaining how it felt
"Adonis I'm so sorry this had to happen to you. I can't help but feel like this is all my fault, I brought you into this mess" He began to cry
"sorry? You saved my life. If you didn't do what you did who know's where he would've shot me. Who know's if I would still be here today."
"I just wanted you to have a perfect prom experience, and even that you couldn't have" He sighed
"can I ask you something?" I asked changing the subject a bit
"yeah what happened?"
"what did he mean when he said you ruined his life and that you were gonna ruin my life?"
"I'm trying to figure that out myself" He said looking across the room
"look at me" I said turning his head to look me directly in the eye "you did not do anything to him, right?"
"no" He said without blinking
"you promise me?"
"yes" He said as he crossed his hands over his chest
Lies. Basic things you need to know when going into the criminal justice field is how to tell if someone's lying, especially if they're one foot away from you. I didn't want to call him a liar though. Maybe he was unsure if he did something wrong to Casey without meaning to. It doesn't matter now though, he's dead.
