Chapter 2

"I know your not allowed to talk to them but the boys next door are smokin' Hail." My best friend Andy says while we sit on the tire swing hanging from the tree in my front yard.

Andy and I have been best friends since fifth grade. She moved here from Arizona and we both were losers and only had each other but we didn't mind, Andy has been here for everything. She was around before Charlie back when my mom was nice, she's the first friend to ever see me cry, in fact Im pretty sure she's the first person to ever actually see me cry and I mean really cry.

"Shut up!" I laugh nudging her shoulder playfully.

"Seriously I wanna tear off their shirts both of them I mean damn!" she says as be both glance up at the Horan's house next door where both the two older boys are playing with the younger one and the sister is on the phone talking with who I assume is a boy by the twirling of the hair around the finger.

"Don't you have a boyfriend!" I tease. Andy has been dating this guy Josh for almost two years now and she's completely in love from what I understand.

"Yeah but you don't." She says lifting her Gucci sunglasses to the top of her head eyeing me.

"What are you trying to say? I can't get a man!" I laugh rolling my eyes.

"No I'm saying, you have a hot neighbor one who is our age! I'm saying get in those pants of his!" she winks before tossing her shades back over her eyes as we swing around and around laughing as we spin on the tire swing.

This is something we've done since we were in fifth grade, every year one the first day of summer we come outside and swing on the tire swing until we get sick.

I can't help but glance over next door as we laugh. I'm almost tempted to walk over there and ask if they wanna hang out with us, I mean come on we've lived next door for years and I haven't spoken a word to them. But Mom would kill me if I so much as step a foot in their direction so I push the thought away.

"Okay I need to stop." Andy says putting her feet down on the ground stopping the swing.

"Same." I say scooting off the tired onto the freshly cut warm grass.

"Ugh remind me why we do this to ourselves every summer?" Andy whines laying on her back in the grass.

"Because we're stupid." I laugh making her laugh.

"Hey what time does Noah get home?" she asks sitting up.

"Should be home soon why?" I ask.

"Still got those water balloons?" she smirks.

"Let's go!" I yelp dragging her inside.

After we change into bikinis, mine light blue, hers light red and both from Victoria secret, we run back outside to the hose and fill up the water balloons and put them in a huge bucket, and wait for Noah to come walking down the street as he always does this time of day.

I can't help but notice the Horan's smiling in our direction as we giggle hiding behind the corner of the house.

"There he is." Andy whispers as we byte grab water balloons, he's with his best friend Jeremy who he has been friends with since he was in fifth grade kind of like Andy and I except their younger than us.

We both throw the balloons at them when they reach the drive way.

"Game on!" They both yell coming at Andy and I grabbing balloons and hitting us and us hitting them back.

We all laugh while Jeremy grabs me and Noah pops a balloon over my head and Andy grabs the hose squirting them until they say we won and run inside, luckily we had towels outside for them to dry off except they took them with them so now we're stuck outside in our bikinis wet until we air dry.

"Look whose checking you out hmm." Andy whispers to me nudging me with her elbow wiggling her eyebrows.

I glancing over my shoulder to see not Greg but the other Horan starring at me but he turns away when he sees me looking back. I immediately get all red in the face myself and go back to picking up the broken balloons.

"He was probably looking at you miss hot stuff." I joke.

"Yeah right, he was so checking you out Hailey, he wasn't even bothering with me."

Just as I'm about to say something back a honking comes from In front of us.

"JOSH!" Andy shrieks running over to him as he climbs out the car.

"JOSHY BA-BY!" I yell rushing over to him hugging him as well.

Josh and I have been friends for as long as Andy and him have been seeing each other and we're all best friends but sometimes it gets annoying when they get in their baby talk voices and stuff like that, I'm happy their in love but sometimes their love grosses me out.

"You missed the water balloon fight." Andy laughs as we finish up picking up.

"Okay you two get on outta here! go have fun you crazy kids!" I say scooting them back into the car.

"You wanna come with us."

"Nah I'm cool plus I'm sure you two wanna you know." I say shooting her a little wink.

"Nah not this week I'm on my period." She laughs and josh just shakes his head smiling at her.

That's the thing right there, I want that. Someone to look at me the way josh just looked at Andy, I want someone I can be as comfortable with as she is with Josh. I want someone who I can joke around with.

"Mother nature, the Biggest cock blocker of all time.." I tease and they laugh as Josh pulls out.

"See ya later Hail!" Andy says blowing a kiss as she always does before they disappear.

I walk to the door to find it locked.

"Noah!" I yell up to his window tossing pebbles at it, good thing his window is on the front of the house.

"What?" he says poking his head out the window.

"Can you please come unlock the door?"

"No use your terrace." He says shutting the window.

I let out a long sigh then walk around to the side of the house and try climb the tree but I can't get my foot up and all I have is my sandals and my bikini on.

"You want help?" I hear a voice say behind me.

"What?" I ask turning around noticing it's the boy next door whose my age.

"Do you want some help up?" he asks again smiling a crooked smile, it's cute.

"Uh yeah sure that be great." I say as he comes over to my side of the small picket fence.

I ignore the fact that he has to place his hand on my butt and the other on the small of my back to help me up because I just said my first words to him.

When I'm finally balanced on the tree I look down at him and smile.

"I'm Hailey, from next door and across the street by the way." I smile.

"I'm Niall, also from next door and across the street." he smirks, he shakes my hand and then with out another word I turn and climb up the tree until I am standing on my terrace.

I turn around and he's gone.
