– EveI slumped back in my seat, covering my face with my hands as I let out a deep sigh. I wanted to cry, I couldn't deal with him for the next three months. Scratch that, I couldn't deal with him full time.
"Eve?" Sarah questioned, scooting her chair backwards a little. I let out another sigh, my breath was shaky but I pulled my hands away from my face.
"I'm fine." I lied, giving her a small smile. She returned it with a sympathetic one, her eyebrows furrowing as her eyes scanned over my face. I knew what this entailed, I had to pose for pictures with him, walk down the aisle with him and I had to plaster my face with a fake grin and smile through how I much I hated him.
"I know you hate each other." Sarah stated with a sigh, "I just want, no need you do this for me. Just for one day of your life can you act like you like each other?"
"I ju– Simon? Really?" I asked, "Why can't I go with someone who actually likes me, you know, like Callum?"
Callum Airey and I were good friends, we often went drinking together and we'd become closer over the two years I'd known him.
"Callum's already got a date." Sarah said, folding her arms over her chest. I groaned, leaning forward and slamming my head down on the table.
"Fuck." I complained, muttering the curse word somewhat under my breath. I was about to say something but was cut off by Sarah's flat door being opened, I didn't even look up and I knew who it was.
"You're home early, Cal." Sarah stated, her voice was confused but overall seemed happy. She was either happy to see her fiancé or happy to have someone to persuade me to have Simon as a wedding date. Or maybe it was both, I didn't know.
"Yeah, none of us were in the mood to stay out particularly late." Cal answered, "What's up with her?"
"I told her." Sarah mumbled under her breath, I lifted up my head and looked between the couple with a glare before I placed my head back on the table.
"Didn't take it well then, huh Eve?" Cal jested, his voice was playful. This was typical Cal, he usually made a serious situation playful by making some sort of joke. I usually laughed, but tonight, I wasn't having it.
I stuck my middle finger up at him before I lifted my head back up, running my fingers through my hair and placing my hands on either side of my face. "Does he know?"
"Simon?" Sarah asked, placing her hand on top of Cal's. I nodded, gesturing for her to continue "Yeah, he does."
"He reacted just the same." Cal said, running his thumb over the back of Sarah's hand.
"No, really? I thought he'd be over the moon to have me as a wedding date, Cal." I spat, narrowing my eyes at him.
Sarah sighed, "Why can't you see the good in him? He's a lovely guy, Eve."
"Listen, I'm sure he is. I'm sure he's got positive aspects but I just don't like him." I said, resting my cheek on the palm of my hand "I can see why you're friends with him but he's not the type of person I mix with. Like at all."
"It shouldn't stop you from trying to be friends with him." Sarah argued, "I don't think you're all that different really. I mean, you both like the same things... you'd have things to talk about that."
"I actually like my friends to be nice to me, Sarah." I said, scooting back on my chair as I looked up at the clock and then back at Sarah and Cal.
"I should go." I said, grabbing my hoodie off the back of the chair and slipped it over my arms "I've got an interview tomorrow."
"Good luck." Sarah said with a smile, "Wanna get lunch tomorrow? I want to do some shopping."
"Sure thing." I responded, "I'll call tomorrow. Bye Cal, Bye Sarah."
"Bye." the both of them said in unison as I walked out of Sarah's flat, running my fingers along the back of heel to fix my shoe. Shutting the door behind me, I headed towards the elevator and pressed the down button as I fished my car keys out of my hoodie pocket.
I had to do this, I wanted to make Sarah happy and if trying to be nice to the boy I hated for just one day meant that she was happy. Then I would accept her request. Because what was life without a few challenges.
