6. Chapter Six – Small Children
“Wha-what?”
“Yeah, pretty weird right? But they have permission and everything. All their clothes have to be shrunk as well or you can just get new ones. You are all scheduled to go shopping tomorrow, who can drive?” I raised my hand along with many other people.
You see, this is what I love about Ms Z. She just talks really tactlessly and matter-of-fact, she doesn’t beat around the bush and she gets things done. Apart from that she doesn’t give two cents about grammar and stuff and literally speaks exactly what she’s thinking. But she somehow manages to never be mean. I mean, who can actually pull that off? Not me, that’s for damn sure.
“Okay, who can’t drive then?” One person raised their hand, and immediately their partner said, “But I can!”
“I have my Learners,” the other person admitted.
“How many of you have a car?” Ms Z asked. I raised my hand again but Harry didn’t.
“How many of you need bigger car for your families?”
Nearly everyone raised their hand.
“Alright, bring your licenses to the office tomorrow and everyone will get a car,” Ms Z said.
“Now, each of your children has been given pyjamas and clothes to last for three days, but you obviously are going shopping tomorrow. Now, your kids will think and act like the age they are supposed to be; and they have all been enrolled in elementary schools within five kilometres. Also everyone can go out for dinner tonight – at any restaurant in the area just say the name of the school. This might be confronting but you have to pick up your kids now. Let’s go!”
Yep, that Ms Zaella speaks fast.
In a daze we followed her through the school to Third Hall, where there were a hundred and ninety-eight kids. I saw that the hall was broken into 26 pieces, one for each letter of the alphabet. Heading towards O, holding Harry’s hand, I spotted six kids standing together, the tallest holding a sign that said “ONE-DIRECTION”.
“There they are,” I called to Harry and we went over to them. They spotted us and ran over.
“Mummy! Daddy! Mum! Dad!” Two little kids smashed into my legs; slightly older kids ran into Harry, and the two older boys followed. It was very crowded in the hall, so I said, “Liam, Niall and Darcy, stay with Dad; Louis, Grace and Zayn come with me. Meet at the house ASAP!” I grabbed a small hand in each of mine and started walking, making sure Zayn was in front of me the whole way. Once out of the congested hall, I said, “Home is that way,” and walked. Louis tugged his hand out of mine and tried to run away, but Zayn quickly grabbed him.
“Thanks Zayn. Can you hold his hand? Grace!” She too tied to pull away but I was ready and grabbed it tighter. I grabbed my key out and unlocked the door, shepherding the kids inside. I switched on the TV and put my pencil-case at the bottom of the stairs. Not long after, Harry and the older children arrived.
“So let me look at you all,” I said. Somehow they arranged themselves into a line in order of age. Liam was first; he looked cute, brown hair flopping in his face. Niall’s blonde hair was fairly short and he couldn’t keep the grin off of his face; Darcy and Zayn looked so much alike, olive skin, the darkest hair I have ever seen and dark eyes – you would believe they were twins. Shortest of all were Louis and Grace – Louis would later be proud to say that he was about an eighth of an inch taller. Grace had long hair that I would call dark blonde but everyone else called brown and Louis’ was a shade darker – okay, make that about five. He was grinning at me and I smiled back.
