They say opposites attract. Think about magnets. You put north to south, and they stick together for as long as you want. Do you ever wonder if people are like that too. Two boys called Dan and Phil who seem to be very different, meet each other and stuck like magnets.

Dan had been a loner most of his life. He was thirteen and never really had friends. He enjoyed science and math, and being alone. He liked to think about the universe and why he was here, he often couldn't find the answer.

He was walking home from school alone with his music on when he felt a tap on his shoulder. He took an earbud out and looked at the smiling kid with black hair and glasses.

"Look if you want to punch me for no reason then just get it over with." Dan said used to bullies annoying him.

"Why would I want to?" He asked.

"Well you're a year ahead of me so I just figured that you wanted to-" He cut Dan off.

"Isn't it a beautiful day, the sky is blue and the grass is green." Dan didn't know the kids name and was confused as to why he was even speaking to him.

"Do I know you?" He asked a little annoyed.

"No. I'm Phil Lester. Who are you?" He said with a smile.

"I'm Dan. Dan Howell." Dan said.

"Well Dan, like I said isn't it nice to see blue skies and fresh grass, and the birds are just lovely sounding." Phil said.

"Phil the sky is blue because blue light molecules are basically dispersed all over the sky from the sun. The grass looks nice because it is becoming warmer and easier for the grass to live and go through photosynthesis producing more food and growing better. When it goes through that process it makes chlorophyll which has a very high, green pigment." Dan said giving him the logical answers to his thoughts on the nice day.

"I barely understood a word you just said, but I'm glad you know." Phil smiled.

"Phil I hate to be rude but why are you walking with me?" Dan asked rubbing his eyes as if Phil was giving him a headache.

"Well I don't have any friends because people find me annoying, and I never see you with people, so I thought we could be friends." Phil said looking hopeful that Dan would say yes.

Dan sighed and shook his head. "Sure we can be friends."

Phil jumped around happily. "Yes finally." Phil handed him a slip of paper that looked crinkled from his pocket.

"There's my phone number, if you ever want to talk." Phil smiled.

Usually Dan would have either ignored him or been extremely rude to him by now, but there was something different about Phil that Dan kind of liked.

They walked the rest of the way while getting to know each other. Phil was very carefree, he loved art and was very creative. He loved to share his thoughts and ideas with people, but also was very go with the flow and didn't really care. Phil learned that Dan was pretty nerdy. He was a major introvert and always thought a lot. He told Phil about how he questioned existence sometimes and stuff and that made Phil think too. He didn't know the answer so he went on and listened as Dan spoke.

Phil liked the way Dan talked. His words very precise and pronounced well. Even though at some points Dan would start to mumble and mix up words, Phil thought he was wonderful.

Dan liked the way that Phil just didn't care. He didn't care about the blue light molecules in the sky, he just wanted to talk about how pretty it looked.
