Sorry for the crap ton of adverbs lol. First draft though.
Chapter Seven
A new friend
Laikynn spends the better part of the next few days trying to fix her photo album. She doesn't have much luck though and she's finally forced to shove it underneath her mattress so she won't look at it every few seconds and have the urge to keep trying. 'Out of sight out of mind,' she thinks. A snort fills the air a split second after she has that thought. "Yea right," she says out loud. "I'd have better luck flying."
Texts from Haneul and Tobias have helped her feel a little better but not as much as she'd like. They were both still playing video games and probably cuddling while she's in her room trying not to scream. She's pretty sure it would make her feel better.
She flops back on her bed and throws an arm over her eyes. "Maybe I can get some sleep," she says. She's exhausted and it would probably help her feel at least a little better. Sleep is one of the best things in her life right now...even with the nightmares turned odd dreams. "I am so pathetic," she grumbles as she turns slightly and buries her face into her pillows instead.
She doesn't expect to fall asleep so quickly. But she does. She doesn't dream for the better part of an hour. And then she does. She's walking towards a huge white cathedral that she's never seen before in her life. 'I wonder if places are supposed to be the same as people in dreams,' she thinks. It doesn't seem to phase her at this point that she's very much aware that she's in a dream of sorts.
As she walks she notices some white benches to her left. "I think I'll sit," she says. She still feels her exhaustion, even in her dreams. "This isn't the best rest I'll probably ever have," she says as she closes her eyes and tries to forget about the dream going on around her. "Maybe I can ignore it," she mumbles.
No words come this time. But the dream feels significant all the same. Attempting to ignore things really doesn't work out at all. The air around her seems to close in when her eyes aren't open.
She'd think it was a regular dream if she didn't feel so aware. She might as well be awake that's how aware she is. All things considered, though she's glad that the voice from her last dream isn't calling out to her again. It's haunted her every waking moment since the last odd dream. "I think I might prefer the nightmares- at least they're straightforward," she says.
The air feels like it shifts even closer in response to her words. She opens her eyes as a chill runs down her spine. The almost serene look fades and the sky above her turns black, sinister. And then it's done.
She doesn't open her eyes as soon as she wakes. The sense of foreboding won't leave her. "Danger," she mumbles. That's all she takes away from the dream, danger.
She doesn't mention the dreams to anyone and she doesn't want any attention on her. But of course, Haneul notices the bruising under her eyes when they are on a video call. But she pushes his worries away. "I've had these Han it's fine. This is just my face now," she says with a shrug.
"Lai, don't do that," he says. His voice is soft and the crinkle in the middle of his forehead is adorable. Laikynn smiles. The shortening of her name from anyone but him or Tobias would drive her up the wall. From them it's endearing.
"I'm fine. Promise. Now tell me, how's sleepy head doing?" The sound of Tobias snoring has her smiling wide enough that Haneul doesn't worry so much as they keep talking.
"He's fine, just tired," he says as he ruffles Tobias's hair. He angles the phone down so Laikynn can get a glimpse of him. He's sleeping with his head on Haneul's lap. She screenshots them without even thinking about it. They are too cute.
