Benji blinks into waking, slowly. When he is sure he isn't in his own bed, he keeps very still. The moon shines through a slit in the blinds, just enough for Benji to see, illumination stopping just before his body starts. A curvaceous figure lays inert next to him, sprinkled in moonshine and hugged by linen sheets. Her brown hair is sprawling all over the pillows; a bit of it shimmers over Benji's wrist.
She had been good, satisfying, if not what Benji had really been craving. He had wanted Jude, but settled for what he could get. And this hadn't been too bad.
But, now it's time to go. The sky is beginning to take on a silvery purple shimmer that usually means the sun is nearing, and Benji refuses to be caught in then bed of a lover come morning. He never has, and doesn't plan to start.
He ninja sneaks out of the bed, careful to avoid the creakier spots in the mattress. A few thin strands of her hair almost get caught in his necklace, and Benji thanks his stars that he checked before he got further away. She's left a love bite on his neck; Benji wishes he could give it back to her.
He glances at the notepad on her dresser. Maybe he should leave a note; he normally would, but last night has turned into a crumpled bundle of whisky stained stumbling, and he isn't even sure who approached who, let alone her name. He hopes he hasn't given her his number.
Benji dresses in the dark, shadows covering his naked, and then increasingly clothed, body. His belt buckle jingles, and Benji's lover stirs. He freezes as she pulls herself into motion, stretching and rolling her shoulders until she's back asleep. Benji doesn't trust it, waits a few more silent minutes before tugging on his shirt.
His phone is still in his jeans pocket, his wallet resting on the nightstand. He checks the side pocket, sighs in relief to find that he is missing a condom. Benji has no intention of becoming a baby daddy any time soon. Normally he only sleeps with women who are on birth control, just in case, but he doesn't remember checking last night.
The time is 2:11, according to the analog clock on her dresser. Benji glances back down at her, then at the time, before rushing towards the door. He nearly trips on her shoe- even though it's dark, he can remember she was wearing black pumps last night- before making it successfully into the hallway.
Her house seems small, and not too difficult to navigate upon first glance. However, she also has a large bull mastiff, not yet awakened by Benji's shenanigans, sleeping on the welcome mat. Benji detours to the kitchen, just off of the hall, and looks for something to distract the dog with.
A chicken wing wrapped in aluminum foil is the perfect solution. Benji picks some of the meat off of the bone and feeds it to the pup as he reaches for the doorknob. It looks up at him, watery brown eyes saying, I won't tell if you don't.
Benji is halfway into his car, the rest of the chicken wing jammed into his mouth, when a light blinks to life in an upstairs window. The girl peers out, but she is too late; the car has pulled away, stealth aided by the headlights being shut off.
Benji breathes out a sigh, glancing at his rearview mirror as he pulls out of the cul-de-sac.
Another successful escape. And thus the playboy lives to see another day.
