Chapter One
“Ahh! Ebony!”
I don’t even have to look to know who that is.
“Hey, how are you?”
She bounces over to me and holds me so tight I can’t breathe.
“I’m fine” her voice turns to a whisper as she speaks over my shoulder. “I’ve missed you so much.”
“Missed you too, Mi”
Mia’s so cute. I call her dimpleface, because her dimples are so predominantly outstanding.
I greet all my other friends as they begin to arrive at school.

Registration and my first two lessons drag out so slow. Finally the bell goes for break, so I hurry through the hallways to get outside into the open air. My face hits the sharp frost, which tingles the tip of my nose. So nice to be outside. It's only the end of second period, and I just wanna go home already. Gah.
I see Amelia walking along the path.
"Amelia!" I run over. "Yow, what did you do in tech?" I ask.
"We just finished making our phone holders."
"Nice, I sat there all lesson daydreaming while miss was blabbing on in her stupid annoying voice."
My teacher honestly sounds like an overly high pitched duck.
She giggles.
She has the same teacher as me but at different times on timetable. Thankfully Amelia's in all of my other classes, along with Mia and Sophie.
We see everyone talking in the garden. It's like a special place just for us. We all hang out here for break and then at lunch, down the field. I stop to look at everyone. It's nice to be back in school, but kind of weird after such a long time. A constant cycle, repeating over and over. But it never gets boring for me, because I learn something new every day. What can I say; I’m a bit of a nerd. I mean, my favourite subject is maths, i'm in top set, got braces and love numbers. Nerd or what? But still cool, of course.
Sophie walks over to me singing 'boyfriend'. Justin Bieber. Sigh. He is an angel that fell from heaven, sent by God to sing his soft beautiful voice. Me and soph are just a little bit obsessed with JB. Even though she's like the biggest tomboy on earth - who has swag - and i'm just crazy brace face, we still share the same interest in him. Who wouldn't?
"Swag swag swag, on you" she sings.
I can’t help but join in.
"Chillin' by the fire while we eatin' fondue
I don’t know about me but I know about you
So say hello to falsetto in three two, swag"...
The bell goes as soon as we finish singing. I start walking to the steel pans room when Ava shoots me a stinking look. Uhh, everyone hates her, because she's a real nasty piece of work. Dangerous. It's kinda funny actually. We used to be really good friends, but then she spread a rumour that turned most of my friends against me. Everyone’s forgotten about it now, but we still haven't spoken to each other ever since. And i'm not planning on making up any time soon.
She quickly forces a fake smile to hide the evil expression that lies beneath, and then waves at someone behind me. I don't see who it is but don't take any notice. Then I feel the warmth of someone brush past my shoulder. I look up to see who it was, but there are loads of people in front of me. I struggle to get past people and squint my eyes to make out who it is, but staring at someone's back doesn't help.
Then I know when he looks back. His facial features are so perfectly made. His hazel-green rimmed eyes glisten in the light. His full lips tilt slightly at an angle when he smiles. He's beautiful.
He wraps his arms around Ava in an affectionate embrace.
It's Jesse.
The boy i'm head over heels in love with.
