Chapter Four
Since I figured that Jesse was not going to be spending time with Ava anymore, I thought I’d invite him to lunch with me on Saturday. I had to make a move sooner or later. Well, I just wanted to talk to him more to be honest.
“Good luck for your date on Saturday.”
I sigh and stare at Amelia as she laughs at my reaction.
“It is not a date.”
“Yeah, sure.”
“Oh for goodness sake it isn’t.”
She gives me a look as if to say ‘Well I know you want it to be a date’.
“It’s not ok, we are just two people going into town and to talk to get something to eat.”
“Fine then, I believe you.”
“Yeah you better.”
She’s been teasing me about this ever since I told her we were going. She’s such a bum sometimes but I still love her no matter what.
Saturday had finally come so I left the house early, and walked into town to meet Jesse at T.G.I Friday’s, at 12 o clock. It was now 12:10 and he still wasn’t here, but I just assumed he was running late so I picked out a table for two and sat patiently for him.
15 minutes later and he’s still not shown up. Let me guess. He’s probably bailed.
A tall white guy dressed in the restaurants uniform came over to my table.
“Has your date not shown up?” he asked.
“Excuse me?”
“Well I just assumed by the expression on your face, you had a date that hasn’t shown.”
Did I really look that bad? And why does everyone think I have a date?
“Oh no, not a date, just meeting up with a friend that’s all.”
“Right, well if you need anything just call me over, name’s Kyle.”
“Ok sure, thanks”
He walks over to another table and serve’s someone else.
Why has he bailed on me? Maybe it was a mistake inviting him. I look down at my reflection on the shiny surface of the table, when I hear a soft voice in my ear.
“Hey, you thought I wasn’t going to turn up right?”
Jesse takes a seat opposite me.
“Yepp, I was almost getting ready to leave.”
“I’m really sorry, I got held up,” he smiles. “Please forgive me”
He gives me a puppy dog face.
“You’re forgiven.”
He stares into my eyes for a second before signalling for the waiter to order our food. We both get a BBQ Smokehouse burger and fries. It’s so delicious I hawk it down straight away. There’s no time to be polite and pretty when your eating a friggin burger.
“Wow, I’ve never seen a girl eat a burger that size that fast before, ever.”
“Are you surprised?”
“Yes.”
“Well, that’s just me.”
He laughs.
“What?”
“It’s just that every other girl I’ve noticed when they eat they nibble and take the tiniest bites. I’m like are you serious right now?”
“I know, it’s quite funny” I snort.
We finish eating, and then pay half each on the bill.
“What do you wanna do now?” he asks as we walk through the arcade.
“Um, something really fun” I say with a mischievous smile.
“Like what exactly are you thinking of doing that’s fun?”
I pause for a brief moment.
“Oh my days. I know what we can do.”
“What?”
“Your gonna think this is absolutely insane.”
“Just tell me already.”
“Ok then, but whatever I say you have to do it. Promise?”
He sighs. “Promise.”
“Let’s jump into the lake over in the castle grounds.”
“What? Are you mentally unstable? that’s crazy!”
“No I’m not, I just wanna have some fun.”
“If this is your idea of fun, then someone please help me.”
“Oh come on, don’t be a wimp. You have to now anyway. You promised, remember.”
He raises his eyebrows at me in disbelief.
“OK then, but you have to jump in first.”
“I’d love to.”
We walk through the castle grounds and reach the lake. I take off my converse, jacket and bracelets, and head straight for the lake. Before Jesse could stop me I’m underneath the water.
