Still breathing

Chapter 3

Green time. Midday. Ceremony of the Mentors. 13th day. Year 285.

Lilith backflipped over the cotton dummy, her back missed the dummy by inches. She stabbed the dummy in the back and landed on her left hand, the other hand was still holding the sword . Lilith pulled out the sword and leapt back on her paws. She sprinted around the now 'dead' dummy, a grin covered her face. Lilith threw the sword into another dummy a few meters away. It fell over with ease, the sound of the wood falling rang in Kira's ears.

She envied her.

She made it look so easy. Kira wanted to be that good.

Lilith knocked over the 'dead' dummy and sat on top of it. Like she did to Kora.

She gashed the dummy over and over again. The cuts could be seen meters away on top of the rock benches, where Kira's family sat.

Kora and the Twins went before Lilith. Kora didn't do well, out of ten, she only scored four. Maximus said that she can enter the army, but she can't get a mentor. The Twins did a little bit better, they were able to score a six. Maximus gave them a mentor, the first for this generation of Amarande family. Their name is Rainer, they were a fox with gray fur. Kira thought they looked cool.

But she didn't want him. She glanced at Tal, who was standing next to Maximus.

She wanted him.

"THATS ENOUGH!" Maximus shouted. Lilith paused midswing and glanced at Maximus. She pushed herself up to her paws and dusted herself off. She skipped to the front with a massive grin on her face. She stopped just before the entrance of the stands.

"Fantastic job Lilith." Maximus clapped his hands together. Soon, everyone started to clap as well, Kira didn't, she wanted to focus on her magic. "You have scored an eight, the highest today." A choir of 'oohs' and 'wows!' rang out from the crowd. Kira's ears twitched.

Getting an eight isn't that good. Anyone can score an eight. Kira can score an eight. She's a five-year-old that has the Amarande charm. She can score as well as Lilith.

Maximus glanced around behind him. Several Monsters sat behind him, they're Royal Guardsmen. Maximus decides who get in the Royal Guard, Brenton is part of it as well! They also double as Mentors for new apprentices. Maximus was going to choose one of them for Lilith.

One of them is going to be Kira's mentor.

"How about..." Maximus glanced beside him. "Tal. Tal will be your mentor." Kira's SOUL dropped into her paws. Lilith took Tal from her. Kira wanted Tal! He's nice and helped her get her magic!

THIS IS NOT FAIR!

Tal walked down the stairs to the ground below. He shook Lilith's hand and said something to her. Lilith nodded and smiled at him.

Kira wanted to scratch that smile off of her face.

Lilith bowed to him, Tal bowed back before they parted ways. Lilith ran back to her family and Tal walked back to his spot next to Maximus. Lilith reached her family in moments. Lilith leaped into Brenton's arms.

Kira wished he dropped her.

"Good job!" Brenton cheered. Melathe kissed Lilith's face, Lilith giggled at the attention.

"...." Kora didn't say anything. Kira guessed it was from her failure as an Amarande.

"Nice!" Ash started

"Lilith!" Blake ended.

"Thank you! Thank you all!" Lilith yelled.

Kira stayed quiet.
